Boxster 20th Anniversary

As many of you will be aware, August 18th 1996 saw the beginning of Boxster production and so this year marks the 20th anniversary of the model. As the Club is attaching its National Event to the Silverstone Classic in five months time (and within a few weeks of the above date) you might expect that the occasion would be commemorated, but in the double-page spread in the latest PP there is no mention of this. However, a 911 Turbo display will "once again" be taking place and a third of a page is devoted to this.

Aside from its significant birthday the Boxster was a very important car for Porsche at the time of its release and continues to be so today. It also makes up a sizable proportion of the membership car parc and so it would seem to warrant more attention than it looks as though it will be getting.

Hi Martin,

There will be something at the event to recognise this anniversary, we're just not in a position to announce what it will be yet.

Bear with us as we hope to have something in the next edition of Porsche Post.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Martin
As Chris has said,it is all in hand and i will be finalising the details at the workers conference in April.
if you would like to see page 109 of this months Porsche Post i think that you will find an announcement to that effect.

Regards
Tracy

Re: the above posts from Tracy and Chris, I was not expecting full details of what was being planned then or now, just a mention of the Boxster anniversary on the PP double-page spread publicising the event. The same advertisement has been run again this month, so there is still no mention of it on the main event publicity. In the circumstances I feel this to be unacceptable and while I am aware that it is noted in the Boxster Register column, that is not my point. The anniversary is not mentioned on the Club website either.

Being only free to attend Silverstone on one day I've just looked at the admission rates and see that there appears to be no club discount for anyone travelling singly. Presumably the only way to obtain a club area parking pass is to book '2 for 1' through a car club and this means that a single participant will have to pay ÂŁ59 instead of ÂŁ49 normal advance admission to be with their Club on the Sunday. I also have to say that I'm not a big fan of tagging our national event onto meetings like this, as there is far too much going on -often some distance away- to fully enjoy the PCGB aspect of things and if you're going to spend ÂŁ50-60 to attend a race meeting you're probably going to want to watch a fair bit of racing! I know that the last time we combined our event with this one I found it very difficult to juggle the racing and PCGB elements and so the latter got very little attention. I also recall that Silverstone made an appalling mess of getting everyone onsite on the Sunday too.

Whatever happens at Silverstone Boxster-wise, at the forthcoming Simply Porsche event at Beaulieu the plan is to park all the Boxsters together.

Hi Martin
As you know it takes time to plan these events and whilst we are still at the stage of dotting the "I's" and crossing the "T's" we are anticipating that there will be a Porsche Parade lap on the Saturday where the Boxsters will play a big part and to follow on there will be an evening event and entertainment at the PEC . Details are in the final stages and once we know what is required for the parade lap I will be contacting Boxster members.
As you saw in the Porsche Post I have also been asked to compile some Boxsters for a club display which I am in the process of doing as we speak.
Thank you for your patience and I am sure that it will be a truly amazing weekend.
Regards
Tracy

I also have a basic 986 registered1997 silver with black interior in good condition having been completely respraid by a Porsche approved reparer. Also has a replacement hood with glass rear window. If that's any help.

Hi Guys
Thanks for your offers but i have managed to collate the 6 cars for the display. I will keep you all in mind should a space become available.
You can still apply to be part of the Porsche Parade lap on the Sat (30th). Just contact Narinder at events@porscheclubgb.com
Don't forget also that we will be kicking off 20th Anniversary celebrations at the Register Rendezvous on 10th September and there will be allocated Boxster display parking.
Regards
Tracy

That would certainly be worth arranging - is R10 going to be organising the parking again this year? If so Paul Ebbs needs to be aware.

Has anyone had confirmation of participating in the Parade Lap as yet ? I've just bought tickets for the Classic, via club (good early bird discount expiring today I think). Looking forward to it.

Another free for all .... oh why oh why ... how difficult is it to park each model up as we use to do ... []
