Boxster Work Commute?

Have to say I agree with the majority, take the Boxster and enjoy it. I drive mine everyday, and am not prescious about clocking up the miles. I enjoy it, and a car is for driving.

Likewise!
I agree with 'spyderman's earlier comment.... I use mine every day to travel to and from work and sometimes wished I stayed further from the office!
I bought the car to drive it and enjoy it. True, it's a precious item for most of us and mine is certainly my pride and joy.
Enjoy the car for the reason you bought it.

Thanks guys. Any tips then on getting the car through the winter part? Do you guys hose down your car to get the salt off on bad days when you get home? I want to keep my car so future value isn't a real issue, it's more about keeping it nice to take back to Oz in a few years! If I go for an older car I'll probably go for an older Saab but there is alot of rubbish out there.

Years ago, OPC used to wax protect the underside after a service (car smelt funny on the ourside after the first few drives)
Now you can request that for an additional cost; not sure why it is optional now and they never insist on having it done but may protect against salt but a good hose down sounds good.

I'd maybe be tempted to buy some cheaper 17" alloys (986?) or 18" (987?) and sticking winter tyres on them for the really poor weather (i.e. 5 degrees or less, regardless of snow) and keeping your normal alloys / summer tyres for good... Mind you, from what I've heard trying to drive the Boxster in snow (winter tyres or not) is not the best idea!!! [:D]

Here here i use my Boxster as my daily drive and average around 32/33mpg which is better than a lot of my other cars i have owned in the past!

Hey Guys, thanks for all of your comments. I have decided to commute in the Box. I bought it to enjoy and with 2 kids I don't get much of a chance to drive it on the weekends.

Many Thanks
Jase

I commute 100 miles each way in my Boxster, much of it on the M11/M25. Most days it's fine, and it's a perfectly pleasant motorway cruiser. Some days (like yesterday), the M25 is a nightmare and is stop-start for miles and miles. On those days I wish I'd kept my Volvo V70 just for commuting! Same in the winter; the Boxster requires a lot more concentration, particularly on snow, and uses a lot of heartbeats worrying about gritter damage and the like. I'll be buying a commuting car before the coming winter, and a Golf Diesel is very high on the list.

Had the same dilema myslf after starting a 420 mile commute (up and back plus running around) for a 3-3.5 day week. Took the Boxster S for the first 4 weeks it was fine hitting nearly 34 MPG on a 60/40 motorway A road route. Was great to finish on a Thursday evening and drive the 165 miles back with the top down, one of lifes pleasure. But took the decision to buy a cheaper 03 model diesel motorway cruiser which is doing about 45 mpg. Bought at the right price it came with long MOT/tax and good tyres so though I could run it for a 4-6 months then move it on without much of a hit.. What you can do once you can try and repeat.

Even having a hardtop for the 986, think if you can have the choice of 2 it is the best way to go, no issues about when ones is in for service etc. biggest problems is getting a good weather forecast so you can make the right choice of car for the week in my case. But as we all the know the Met Office are well of the pace this year in their predictions.

[:D] Thinking about a TDi Golf Mk3 again! I tell you what though there is so much rubbish around at the £3k mark making it a scary proposition.

I've done it guys. Bought an 01 plate golf TDI (see pics). Very happy to savour the Porsche for fun times. Thanks for all the advice.

Thanks mate. I'm enjoying parking in the nasty spots right near the shops now[:D] Drove the Stuttgart stormer on the weekend and had a big smile on my face. Didn't notice the power so much when I was driving her every day.

Enjoy adequate commuting performance, 55mpg and filling up once a week! Also a bit quieter too.

diesel golf quieter? must have a noisy boxster ;p

ive got a golf iv dieslel and a 944, yes the golf is a frugal comfortable practical tool for getting from a to b but that drone on the motorway and lack of any overtaking possibilities at all mean i never, ever, want to drive it. it gets used for groceries and g/f commutes in it. i cycle to work but if i lived further away id take the 944 daily. put me in the 'lifes too short' brigade ;)
