Brake imbalance

Still happening with replacement caliper and, judging by the way brake fluid pours out of the brake pipe when disconnected I'm pretty sure it isn't that either. Don't know whether to go for the master cylinder next or rebuild the right hand caliper (although as the latter is working _too_ well suspect it isn't that).
Best price I can find for a new master cylinder is about £75 from Berlyn (cheaper than ECP by a few quid).

Well, fitted new master cylinder and it is still pulling to the right although not quite as badly as it was, I think. Brakes also feel more spongy then before so I suspect that I'll have to bleed the system again. Will rebuild the right hand caliper and see how that goes. After that I'm really going to be stumped as I've changed everything on the front bar the piping.
PS Berlyn has BMCs for £60 as he bought a job lot of those that were left (ATE type made by Lucas). As the refurb kits are £55, good price I think.

Just a thought,

Changed my front tyres to Toyo's and instantly improved the breaking buy at least 20%. The brakes were very good before, now they are excellent.

Seems you have tried everything else......

Are the tyres a matched pair, check pressure and rotation.

I gather you don't have ABS as you are locking up.

Just a musing ... you are sure that the imbalance problem is on the front of the car - not the rear? (I.e. the MOT Man told you it is the front?)

If you are only going by on-the-road feel, how can you be sure that the problem is with the front of the car?

Oli.

I had a brake judder for a while that felt like the front discs, I changed the discs, pads, etc. Let other people drive the car and all felt it was a front brake issue, I then drove around the judder for a while. When I changed the rear discs for the MOT the judder went and the car has been great since. The rear brakes have more influence on the cars braking than maybe we expect.

Good luck with your problem,

Incidentally I forgot to mention when mine was pulling to the side, I found one of the rear tyres (diagnollay opposite where the problem appeared to be occuring) was lower than the other tyre pressures.

Dave K.
