Brake squeal

Just an update of the brake saga.

I took the car back last Wednesday for the application of 'special' casterol grease. That did nothing and the squeal is just as bad.

After some fairly tough talking, I think I may have started to get some action. This week the 911 goes back for a complete brake change: discs, calipers, shims, pads.. the lot. So let's see what that does. Assuming that not all C2 PDK cars have the problem, I am reasonably hopeful. At least Porsche are taking me seriously.
 
Well they are lending me a new C2S Targa for a few days. I'll be interested so see what that is like. I do hope this will be the end of the sorry saga.
 
intersted to hear if the wind noise is as obtrusive as you remember derek.still havent decided which one to choose yet-hopefully should be closer after silverstone in 2 weeks

Excuse me going off at a tangent but I thought they only made the Targa in 4 wheel drive variants?

Well I never said I was always correct. No, the car is a Gen 2 C4S manual Targa. Having stepped out of a Gen 2 C2 PDK Cab, I was in the ideal position to compare. These are my initial impressions:

1. The view out the rear when the roof is open is terrible.
2. I felt that the performance of the manual C2S was inferior to a C2 PDK.
3. It felt quite surefooted, though lacked the 'feel' of the C2.
4. It was noisier than a Cab with wind deflector up.
5. The Cab looks a million dollars; the Targa looks like a Coupe with a sunroof.

Bottom line? Go for the Cab if you want fresh air and looks; go for a Coupe if you want purist driving. Don't bother with a Targa. Of course that is purely my own opinion, but I have owned all three variants. That is more important than a mere short test drive.

 
Saga continues [:mad:]

Popped into my OPC today to check when I could collect my car. As I arrived, the foreman (ace chap) was on the phone. He was actually talking to Porsche Cars about my C2 PDK Cab. Having fitted brand new discs, calipers and pads from a new C2 Coupe demonstrator, the problem still exists on my car! Yes, you have guessed... the problem now also exists on the other car as well. Is this a deadly virus???

I have now been back to the OPC 5 times, written 50+ emails and made about 20 phone calls. To be fair, my OPC has done everything that they can do, but now admit that they have totally run out of ideas. We know that C2S, C4S brakes are ok, but I am told they cannot be fitted to a C2 because of homolgation issues. I have left the car with them.

So what is the next step? [:(] I am definately not accepting the fault and my OPC certainly do not expect me to! Whatever the solution, I have told them formally that there is a timeline running.

Well if they cannot fix it and C2S brakes cannot be fitted I suppose the only alternative to my money back (don't want that) is to fit ceramics. A bit drastic, but I will not wait another 6 months.
