Brake Vibration.

Evening Maurice, I had new discs, pads and the plates sorted to resolve an issue with vibrating brakes.

The plates were lifting and the fixings difficult to remove, I'm told. Also, the pads were badly mishapen - possibly had been filed to fit by someone in the past, but this is pure conjecture.

Had my discs skimmed last Wednesday.

The chap who did them did a lot of measuring and checking of wheels and hubs and declared the offside set-up to be causing the problem. Skimmed both front discs and fettled the mounting surfaces between wheels, hubs and discs. He spent most of the morning fettling. Car was immediately cured of vibration on braking and is transformed. Not sure why I tolerated it for so long - not like me at all. Is now a pleasure to drive again. Thanks for all your input and responses.
