Morning guys,

This is my first post on here and i'm going to check out a 1983 944 Lux tonight and unless something is glaring wrong with it i'll be buying.

The index is A110 TUV, its had 10 previous owners but only 89k miles. ( Anyone recognise the plate? previous owners?)

It is at the lower end of the market and hopefully i get a bargain. The obvious down fall with this one is that it won't be coming with any service history as its been lost over the past 27 years, the current owner is only using it a few times a week and is said not to be having any issues with it. Body work looks in good nick as does the interior.

I'm not looking for a minter just a realiable clean ish runner i can use and maintain but still restore bits in my own time.

I've read pretty much all the buying guides and have a decent enough knowledge of cars so fingers crossed i don't pick a lemon.

Do 944's run on 95 ron fuel or 97+?

Hi and welcome, hopefully teh car turns out to be a good one ! [:)] The cars run on 95 RON - no point going 98 RON really with original chip in place as it won't know what to do with it.

Cheers Jon. That'll help keep running cost down as i've been having to use V power for the past 6 years. Looking forward to getting it, i do feel like i'm really stepping into the unknown as i've never even sat in a 944 before.

Hopefully i will fit into it and it will be comfortable, i'm 6'1" so not freakishly big or anything.

No problem. Plenty of people well over 6 foot have them as the seat goes back a long way. Good luck, sounds like you've done you research. [:)]

check inside the oil filler cap, if there's a big puddle of oil in there it's likely that the car's suffering from the same problem as my 83 car.

Just got back from seeing the car and.............I've bought it.

[:)]

Drove it home from Bristol to Greenwich with no issues mechanically. First time i've driven a porsche and it felt solid. No rattles or shakey bits.
Interior is very clean and the car has only done a smidge over 89,000 miles.

Body work is in good nick too, there is one poor attempt of a repair on the front bumper but it doesn't detract from the overall car, its passed my brothers approval and he is a perfectionist lol.

The front water jets for the windscreen are not working thou that is the first thing i need to check out plus i will probably do a at home service soon too.

Many congratulations ! This place is a mine of information for all things 944 related so whatever questions you may come up with there is almost certainly someone here who knows the answer (or can guess convincingly ! [:D])

Of course we need to see some pics of your new purchase too...[:)]

Excellent. You should be running any early car on SUL though - they were designed to run on four star petrol, after all. They dont need lead, but they do need the higher octane rating.

Cheers guys, i'll try get some pics up on Friday after i've given it a bit of a wash, can't wait to then get my clay bar and kestrel polisher on it too so its all polished, sealed and protected for winter.

Super unleaded eh.... not a prob, i'm used to always buying it and i do honestly buy into the better fuel arguement. I've got loads of octane boost bottles left over from a group buy i once did so i'll get some use out of them.
The fuel gauge appears to be pretty random, the last owner thought there was only anout £10 in the tank but i filled it up and was going to fill it to the top and i could only fit £31 more in there.

How many miles do you guys get from and full tank with a mixture of town and motorway driving? Are they 60l tanks?

I used to get around 30mpg from my lux, very much a mix of around town and steady motorway runs. Most fuel guages only seem to go up to about 3/4, no matter how brimmed the tank is. [&:]

Hi I ve an '83 lux, def use 98 RON - should have a sticker in the filler flap, tanks are 68L I think and I've never worked out the mpg as its not why I bought it!
But would guess at 25 ish.
Enjoy it [:)]
