buying a 944

It has a few mods so not quite standard. The Silver Rose interior / exterior isn't everyone's cup of tea though.
Correct Richard is a nice chap and after plenty of discussions it has now moved up North. [:D] There are a few cosmetic jobs to be done to the car, but mechanically it has been very well looked after with plenty of paperwork to back it up. Wheels back to Silver Air Conditioning re installed (I have most of the bits included in the sale) Side Door mouldings re fitted Bailey Dump Valve removed and a re-circulating valve fitted Club Sport Steering wheel fitted Alpine DVD Double Din stereo removed for a standard unit Change the exhaust system to a quieter one as the Lindsey one is a bit loud for me but surprisingly quiet inside the car.

Looks a nice car and in good condition. If the service is good and the belts etc. have been changed recently and the bodywork is as good as it looks it could be worth a viewing
Chris Horton says its had everything done, some sill work but he thought it a little skittish, needs new tyres and a geo. To be honest that strikes me as top money and I would expect everything spot on for it, including new tyres.
 
Thanks a lot for the replies everyone. Very much appreciated. I am continuously talking to the guys there. He sent me a pic of the options sticker and it seems to stand up to the add. The only thing I cant figure out is the interior colour code. But the Koni suspension and the slip differential all came with the car. Outside colour also original. About those sill covering I agree they are awful. So I asked what is underneath and whether these can be removed. He said easy to remove and underneath the sills are perfect. But I still asked whether underneath is original, i.e. does it have the diamond shaped indents, and waiting for a reply. The bridge spoiler is Porsche but not 944 original. Not sure it is such a problem though. Also the wheels I dont think are a big problem. If the sills are original and the engine is good even though the car stood a bit over the last 20 years (hence the low mileage). Air conditioning doesnt work as he says that the gas is illegal these days so will cost a lot to refurbish to new standards. Not sure this is true. If anyone is aware of a good one for sale please post a link here. I drove the one at Mauldren and didnt feel like a turbo...

Hi Soli, The oustide condition of the sills is irrelevant. There's a thick coat of stoneguard, then the paint, so the sills can easily be completely rotten inside without any signs externally. You need to see the inside condition, which is dead easy to do as there's a huge black vent in the door pillar to get a camera in. If they refuse to do this, then you have to ask why?

We are talking the white one, yes? The bridge spoiler is horrid (and not Porsche, BTW), but with plenty of 944s being broken I would just change it for original. A badge and rear decal will be small money, and you could re-do the bumper rubber if you wanted. The trim above the doors might be painted or wrapped, but again could be easily restored. The wheels are fine IMO, just lose the red "gator trim" (or is it painted on?). Thing is, it's up for £9K. That should get you a spot-on turbo: perhaps a few more miles, not an issue on a 944, but with some decent mechanical mods instead of naff bodywork mods. If the car really is a sound, low-mileage example, why would you do that to it! [8|]
 
I have a big bridge on my car along with 968 sill covers ( I can assure you there is no rust at all in my sills as every panel in there is new) However I am contemplating putting the rubber spoiler back on.

[/URL][/img] I personally can't see anything wrong with the big bridge on mine but when its painted white it does tend to stand out a bit.

Not necessarily! I wouldn't look at a car if it hadn't had replacement sills and work done to the wing bottoms already. Only the best kept hermetically sealed garage queen would have it's sills in better shape than a car with replacements.

I've put 5 years and at least £10k into rebuilding this car. I don't think I will ever sell it, unless someone made me a silly offer and promised not to kill it.
 
We'll I see your point but they need to be original porsche 944 sills and the work done by someone who knows what they are doing

Colin, do it now! That aftermarket bridge is truly horrid [:'(][:'(] (as is the one on the Autograph car) Soli, have a real good look at the inside of those sills by poking a small camera down the vent in the door jam. That dealer has a bit of a reputation here for selling very undesirable cars with lots of stick on go faster bits and questionable taste. With a budget of £9k you should be able to find a good Turbo without any of these worries
 
I will echo what Paul has posted, you can do better for a 9k budget, new cars for sale will be surfacing in the next few weeks and months i am sure as the warmer weather "the season" approaches, one of my cars may well be for sale but that will not be until around May. To be replaced with another 944 i have my eye on i may add [;)] depending on £££ numbers. Sit tight and the right one will come along, there is a red S2 on E Bay that sounds as though it deserves a looking at.
 
I.m going more and more back to the old rubber spoiler. BTW this is a shot down the inside of my sill after surgery and before I filled it full of vactan and wax. Also just noticed picture is upside down
