Buying a new Boxster 2.9 - which options are worth considering?

Don't disagree with you about the resale benefits of options, although there are clearly people out there who have a more straightforward approach, and presumeably they buy second hand porsches as well ;-).
I was merely answering the original question. It's a personal choice as Ian pointed out.

Just had a second test drive in an S - probably a mistake because I want one of them now! As an aside I also test drove a Nissan 370z roadster today and although this is almost certainly preaching to the converted, I don't think they are in the same league - the 370z was heavy, sluggish at low revs, claustrophobic and rattled with the top up; worse- I had to work it really hard to make me smile -it just didn't feel that fast. I find it amazing that so many reviewers put it on a par with the Boxster S which was absolute fanstastic to drive today.

Anyway my local dealer has the following available now (I am a sucker for getting something quick once I have decided) - but this is pretty close to what I am now looking for (changed somewhat from the original post):

Boxster S £ 41,324.00
Infotainment Package £ 2,092.00
Meteor Grey Metallic £ 602.00
Black Cabriolet Roof £ 0.00
Black partial leather seats £ 729.00
Wind deflector £ 218.00
Storage box £ 0.00
ParkAssist £ 341.00
Top tinted windscreen £ 67.00
Sports tailpipe £ 357.00 (not really bothered about this - what's the point?)
19 inch Turbo II Wheel £ 1,573.00 (might try and get these changed to 18" and save a few quid, especially since it seems the car was designed around 18" wheels)
Floor mats £ 71.00
Heated seats £ 289.00
Fully automatic climate control £ 428.00
Standard seats £ 0.00

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Has anyone had any luck getting a dealer to throw something in (like floor mats!) or is that a lost cause and better to fight on px price...

Cheers

Ian

Things you could ask for;

Free first service
Mats (definite)
Coloured Wheel centres
Front and back boot liners

Or, just about anything from the dealer fit options list.

Of course, you might just get a big thank you from the salesman [:D]

Nice spec if you're happy to fork out and make use of the infotainment pack. Ride could be a bit firm but the latest cars are better due to lighter wheels and Tyres.

3 weeks away from a new reg plate and the dealer has an unsold car? It's either a showroom car coming to end of it's display status or a cancelled order ; either way I smell a deal to be had !!

Certainly didn't find it too firm on the S I test drove with 19" wheels; mostly around country lanes. But then I had just had a similar drive in a 370z which is way too firm, so anything was going to be better.

Still - will see what the dealer can offer if I swap for 18" wheels.

I concur - a Gen.2 S with standard suspension on 19s felt noticeably smoother than my 986 S (admitted with MO30) on 18s.

Agreed - definitely the best extra fitted to my car [:D]

If the car is a stock car, you may well be pleasantly surprised by the deal that could be available. If financing through Porsche, it is also worth knowing that the APR can be negotiated too. Having set my heart on the Spyder it was over 2 weeks of phone calls and emails before a mutually acceptable deal was arrived at but it was certainly worth the wait.
