Calipers off!!!! Just

Plus Gas is a release oil product (like WD40 but much better) Its in a spray can just like WD..

Make yer own, diesel/paraffin mix works superbly well, in fact soaking/immersing in diesel only for a day or two works wonders also

I recently replaced the caliper plates. On each caliper one plate had torque heads and the other allen head. The torques unscrewed with no effort, the allen heads would not budge even with heat etc. Tried everything until I rounded them off.

Funny mine were exactly the same, one torx and one hex. Ther tox came off easy the hex did not.

The only thing that came to mind was that (also looking through service history) that when they were last replaced they only did one plate on each caliper which would be odd (maybe they couldn't undo them[8D])
The new ones come with torques, which are by far better. Much more purchase area.
Also, remember that these are also thread locked in so, the heat is also important for this.

Does anyone know the size of these Torx?

It seems to me the hardest part of the job is getting the hex bolt out and they are difficult to find, apart from in the official Porsche kit with new plates for circa £30.

As the plates themselves can nearly always be re-used it would be nice to find a supply of the Torx for pennies [:D]

I binned the old ones. They are M6 thread. I remember as I cleaned the threads out of the calipers to allow the new ones to go in properly. Approx. 15mm long.
Diver from what you say, I have paid twice as much for mine. Anyone else got prices?

I thought about going down that route, as you say no question that the plates can be re-used. I really just did not have the time to chase up a supplier for the torx bolts. I might have kept a few of them, if i have i will happliy pass them on if someone else want s to try. Will have a look this weekend.

BTW the torx will come out without heat no problem, i used a torx bit out my socket set with an 9mm spanner on it, worked a treat.

To be honest its really no big deal to split the calipers and get a new pipe made up for them, then you get proper access to the bolts. Really the biggest issue with refurbing the calipers is the cost of the plates, so if anyone got the torx bolts then it would make it a very straightforward job.

p.s. my plate were about £13 each or just over £100 for the lot.

That would be for front and rear x8 in total?
So, I paid £20 per plate from Porscheshop for four. Where did you get yours from Slim_boy_fat?
The bolts came pre-thread locked, but not a quids worth.
Did you get the bolts supplied with the plates for that price also. Sorry to go on, but it might be useful for others to get the best deal etc.
Also, you have to take the plates off to be able to split the calipers.

I thought I had posted this already, must have been on another forum

HERE and HERE show the parts. I'm in the middle of a full refurb of both front and rear turbo/250 callipers to go on my 944S. I'll post more pictures as I go further, but I'm a bit tied up with work on Turbot at the moment.

Look at THIS INVOICE for OPC pricing on the parts for the rebuild.

HTH

Rick.

So better to buy from an OPC especially with the discount. My invoice has only the first three parts number, 964.
I know that there are many other models other than ours with this plate

OPC mate, brembo parts with torx screw covered in threadlock, just shows that sometimes the OPC can get the best prices.

Yes indeed if you are splitting the calipers then the plates wouls have to be replaced, but you just cut the plates down the middle, its just another method if the screws are really stuck fast

i paid £12.55 each for the plates, no difference in price between the ones from the front and the ones for the rear.

The brake refurb is made out to be a big scary operation but its really not, as long as you have some time on your hands and dont need you car every day. This allows you to deal with the inevatable seized bolt... Saying that next time mine need done (about 10 years!!!!!!) the screws will all come out very easily.

I also replaced the bleed nipples at the same time, put a smear of copper grease on them too, they can get stuck very easily and can be a real pain. Again its good to do things right for the sake of the cost of 8 nipples. [:D]

Yes sorry, I was talking per calliper. The plate kit is circa £15 per plate including the screw, 10% discount then 17.5% VAT

On Ricks invoice it's these bits:

993.351.959.01 - front M030 calliper upper plate
993.351.959.00 - front M030 calliper lower plate

993.352.959.01 - rear calliper upper plate
993.352.959.00 - rear calliper lower plate

which were all £14.76 pre vat and discount

Whereas in reality I believe the whole job can be done for the price of 8 screws ( under a quid ) and some swearing []

Depending on if the plate is still straight/true etc. You could probably use the same bolts. But after going to the hassle I think better to replace with new.
