Cam box cover.....

As I'm having my chain, belts and some other bits done in a couple of weeks, I thought I'd also get the spare cover I've had sitting around for 2 years, powder coated to replace the horrid OE Beige.

Until I pop over to the place tomorrow, I don't know how the reds they can offer match against Guards, so was wondering - close/bad match or another colour. What do the panel think?

ORIGINAL: mike220 Variation on Paul's theme, but a nice gun metal grey for me [:)]
Thirded. Maybe a protective clear high-temp laquer to show off the natural magnesium?

Isn't the apparent beige actually a degraded/faded finish that originally was a little like a Zermatt silver though? The underside and also the inner of the cam sprocket housing appears to suggest such - Well on mine anyhow - very much like my old 928 S4 that had a very similar satin finish... which when redone actually looks quite attractive..... (least I hope so as my S2 bits go in today!)

Everyone will have their favourites. And it's a bit like linings in a suit; you can choose an outrageous colour and get away with it as it is not really on display ... I'd go for the pistachio green you see 968's in. Oli.

Carbon fibre effect (to match your trim pieces [;)] ) or maybe walnut for that British sportscar effect

Rob -my spare is cleaned and degreased but is the same beige colour underneath. [:'(] Paul - CF powder coat finish would be a real innovation and the obvious choice [:D] Oli - Your analogy made me chuckle and minded me of an 80's waistcoat I may still have......how about Paisley for that period look? :ROFLMAO: If I can get it done in time, I think something more gunmetal is what I'm thinking....or was it silver(ish)? [&:]

I have an old 944 brochure which clearly shows the cam cover to be silver so when I overhauled the top end on mine I had the cam cover done silver and I think it looks spot on but everyone has their own personal preference so go with what you fancy.

Dave, Any chance of a photo? This is one of my next projects and I have been debating between black (body colour) and the original silver Andy

Martyn Cockram the old 944 Register Secretary ordered a new one a number of years ago and it came as a matt silver colour. It really amazes me that they fade to beige [&:] and I feel they must have come in two colours

Dave Mac does these, a couple can be seen here, bottom of the page, http://www.daytonacoachworx.co.uk/gallery.htm# Edd

That's it. Silver, with the logo in body colour to match the interior of the engine bay. Job done. [:)]

Slightly off topic but has anyone here had a car done at Daytona ? , looks like a possibility for a quote Cheers Mas

Yes Mas, Daytona are the guys doing my S2 at the moment, there is a post about it [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=536643&mpage=1&key=&#538897]here[/link]. Hopefully will be getting it back tmro and will post results soon... Edd

You mean Pink Burberry? [:D] Well finally got it done and went for........

Being fitted tomorrow with chain, belts etc - much nicer than beige (which I still don't believe is faded matt silver) Silly me....should have been done in red which would have added at least another 10 bhp :ROFLMAO:

Looks good Richard [8D] You realise with all these cosmetic details you are doing that we shall have to nickname you the 944 Blingmeister [;)]

How easy is the cam cover to remove and replace the Gasket, looking at Clarke's/Haynes it seems as if the bolts on the cam cover also hold the cam in! Mine drips oil by No.1 cylinder onto the Exhaust, resulting in a periodic plume of white smoke from under the bonnet, particularly in traffic (much to the amusement of onlookers!) It is harmless, but rather unsightly!
