can you tell me what this brace is?

Thanks david, if i want to buy N0102410 an m8 bolt at 22mm long, there are two things I'm not sure of

1. What finish (stainless, zinc plated, steel)
2. How do i get right tensile strength.

I do see bmw m8 by 22mm bolt on ebay so tempted to get that as i guess it is similar should i just look for same bolt type size used on another car?

Most of ebay bolts are ss which I've read is not good for automotive uses. I dont know on zinc if that is desirable or whether it could cause electrolyzis.

Tensile strength i dont know what to look for.

Apologies btw as im sure answer is obvious, I'm just not sure what it is!

Thanks
Stephen

I buy most of my fasteners from ebay, Use the parts catalogue to get the exact dimensions.

Yup, probably for your every day non-critical fasteners then ebay as good place as any. Most, or nearly all, of the suppliers you see at the NEC shows have an equivalent ebay shop - Wrights Fasteners as an example.

Anything safety critical (e.g. seat rail hex screws or seat belt anchor bolts etc), make sure you know what you're getting as they are of specific steel grade and heat treatment type - seat mounts Grade 8.8, selt belt anchors Grade 12.9 (usually 7/16" UNF).

For that part/set screw in question I wouldn't worry too much - it's non-load bearing during normal use (it's for support only). I would use standard zinc plated set screw of that size and typically, so I don't have to worry a few years down the line, I give it a thread covering of something like Copaslip, or any other ant-sieze compound.

Hi Stephen
One of my supports is looking a bit rusty!
Let me know how much.

Yes that is second set of parts from carpoint.de i have bought via ebay. I have some brake backing plates too at half the uk price.

What i really need is a cheap place to buy bolts and screws. I've been using design911 but they are expensive plus charge courier prices for everything so few bolts costs an arm and a leg.

Btw i inon used one of my supports if anyone needs one.

Nick the support and bolts are on their way. Hopefully you‘ll have better luck on getting the bolts out for this support, i still havent got my broken bolt out, I’m going to have another go this weekend.

You might want to check the bumper supports too that attach rear of bumper to underside of the bumper from the inside. Neither of mine were properly attached as either the screws or clips had rusted away so i replaced those at the same time.
