Can't start, won't start

Hi guys dot know if you can shed light on a problem I'm having. Have been having more and more of a problem starting my car in the morning untill this morning would start at all started a few weeks ago where it would take longer than normal to fire up got worse and worse till I decided to have a look and found a fuel hose leaking so thought it could be down to low fuel pressure repaired the hose and it improved slightly still not right though so then thought it must be the battery with this cold is not good but the charge indication on the battery is still green and the car is turning over just not firing but the battery voltmeter in the car is Reading really low. When I did get it to fire once it was running really really rough popping and banging and struggling with tickover. Anyone got any ideas? Any help greatly appreciated.
 
I'd check your fuel lines going from the tank to the engine thoroughly to be honest. Try unplugging an injector lead and see if the car runs. If so it almost certainly points to a fuel pressure regulator fault.

Or fuel filter, most are original!
 
Hey guys thanks for that checked everything mentioned bought a new battery anyway as it wasn't too expensive with a halfords trade card but still didn't work so took the dizzy off again and in doing so noticed the connection from the coil was corroded so cleaned it up with some wet an dry and tried again and started and ran perfect. Gonna get a new coil has the whole unit was a bit shitty do you think this could have been the problem?
 
i was a bit too hasty i feel. the same problem leaving work struggles to fire im sure its a fuel problem now thinking its low fuel pressure as the hose is still leaking and might be inducing air
 
this is the offending hose in the engine bay from the left hand side up the fuel rail, anyone know where i can get one or its part number so i can order one from gsf?

if cleaning up the coil connection make it run perfectly (your words!) and now it's ropey again, I'd go back and look at the connections on the coil again. Occums Razor would hopefully indicate that you are looking at (one rather than many) problem.

im thinking it was just a coincidence and thats the fuel hose is the real culprit its not just a slight leak its a pretty dangerous. dont know how its started so fast i definately would have noticed it. probably by the fact id have caught fire
 
just out of interest what are the symptoms if the fuel pump dme relay goes on these? similar symptoms?

Often seems to cause hot-starting issues when it's on it's way out. I think, I'm not the techie here lol!

If anyone hasn't got a spare relay in the glovebox, why not? It's probably the most common fault on the car, and the difference between carying a £20 spare and needing to call the AA out and then spend £20 anyway? Seems a no-brainer to me, more relevant than a spare wheel in some cases.

At worst, you might one day find a stranded 944 owner and buy yourself a better place in the afterlife. [:)]
 
arghhh!! cannot seem to fix this at all. right new battery, new plugs, new dme relay (just changed this for the hell of it so i had a spare) new hose from pump to pressure dampener on the rail as old one was leaking really bad and still not sorted if anything its getting worse cant start it at all now before it used to take 30-40 mins to get it started. am definately getting fuel pressure have had the hoses of while craking and fuel comes out at a helathy pressure. im not sure if it could be electrical, dizzy or coil. any ideas? am just sick of buying and changing things for them to not fix it
 
yeah that looks lke the stuff i need where can i buy it :) mines gayer cos sometimes it will start then run increasingly rougher then cut out and not start again :(
 
It sounds very much like an ignition issue if you were originally getting popping and stuttering. Much more commonly an ignition fault than a fueling fault. If the coil connector was in need of a clean up then id suggest a new dizzy cap and rotor arm would be a good idea. You've done the plugs which is good although these rarely cause the popping issues. If the rotor arm has come loose at all, this would cause starting problems as well as the popping.
 
Rotor arm has a small grub screw which can work loose.
Would change the arm and cap unless, they are new - made a big difference to mine.
