Can't start, won't start

cheers guys went from vw's to the 944 i have now and was worried the online community wasnt going to be as large or as helpfull. like being proven wrong on this occasion :) quick noob question but is there anyway of checking the dizzy and the rotor arm to see it theyre knackered and where would be the best place to get replacements of these? obviously know gsf and porscheshop are good but expensive.
 
right think ive got it just taked the dizzy off as hadnt even looked at the rotor yet only to find this:

could this have been giving me all that grief? looks like the red plasticy stuff around it has melted away!!

Over the years it's amazing how many cars I've heard of that have been running with rotor arms in the most unbelievable state of decay. I'd suggest it's worth having a look regardless of whether it's being a problem right now.
