Car bumped at Cambridge OPC PCGB meet Weds 13 Nov 2013

Hi Folks,

Yesterday was my first PCGB regional meet and as the weather threatened to lash it down on my return journey i wimped out on taking my 964 and took my BMW. I was 'that guy' who was called for when the speeches started. And it was my BMW that was bumped accidentally when someone was trying to put their car in a space that didn't exist. Thankfully the damage is very minor - i need to repaint my wing mirror - and i am curiously pleased that i don't need to do more.

Andy Matthews (Sales manager) did give me a reg number which he explained was handed in by a witness - Thanks so much if that was you! Sadly the reg number as written down doesn't appear to exist. Were you the witness? Could I be misreading your writing? Please take a look at the the post-it note below and let me know.

I have searched on VU09 FCU and VU09 FLU and neither appear to exist. VU09 FLH does exist and is a white Vauxhall Corsa. Could that be the car you saw?

I know it is not going to be terribly expensive to fix this and I suspect there will be folks who think i should just pay up and move on but as a matter of principle i would like to find the person who did it to ask them to pay.

Thanks for any help any of you can provide.

PS Andy has asked his CCTV team to review the recordings. Hopefully they will be able to ID a car coming or going and/or spot it in the act.

Sorry to hear about that - I did wonder what was going on when they called out for the owner!

If nothing comes to light before next Club night let me know. Since most of our Regular 24 attendee club members were at PC Cambridge last night I can ask if anyone knows more.

Let hope we can find the culprit!

Brill tx john. I am hopeful that he CCTV search pays dovidends.

That's bad news. It would have been bad enough in a supermarket car park but given where you were and whom you were with? Someone's letting the side down. Good luck with the cctv.

It would appear that you may have been left a message
V U could be 'f*** You' and 'FCU' is often used to say the same thing.

Be interesting if any of the sales people at the OPC has a record of who they dealt with that evening. Interesting that they called you out of the meeting.

Good luck with finding the person who did it.

Cheers,

Hi Fred,

Another 964 owner! [:D]

I know what you mean re the number and the 'hidden message' i thought the same! When I suggested as much to the Sales Manager he was quite prickly and defensive, almost passive aggressive as though I was accusing him of something untoward. Of course I wasn't.

That said, I was told that their CCTV system was not working that evening (crazy for a very busy open evening) so there is no way of checking the reg plate of the facts.

Truth be told, I don't think they could be bothered to check as I got the impression that a £100 repair/repaint of my mirror is regarded as 'chump change' by them. Really if that is the case I think they should offer to repaint my mirror cover for free as a good will gesture. They did, after I asked for some goodwill, offer to paint it for a 25% discount.

Discussing this at the weekend with good friends over dinner, everyone round the table agreed that I should write to Porsche GB to complain. All were genuinely surprised that Porsche Cambridge had not been way more accommodating.

Not really sure what Porsche GB would do... perhaps a letter to the dealer principle?

Thoughts?? One thing is for sure, at this point I shan't be using Porsche Cambridge for work if their attitude to security is so lax and their sense of responsibility for cars parked on their property is so errant.

Was really nice to attend my first PCGB meeting but turned out to be an expensive evening. Glad I didn't bring the 964!!

Hello,

If the person who left the note was genuine they would have written their name and a telephone number. This is similar to someone leaving a note on the windscreen saying

'PEOPLE WATCHING ME THINK I AM WRITING DOWN MY NAME AND TELEPHONE NUMBER, I'M NOT THAT STUPID'

(Capitals used not for shouting purposes).

Cheers,

Yes. Agreed. I asked the sales guy to put me in touch with the 'witness' so i could discuss it. that request went unanswered. it could be that the witness requested anonymity. make of that what you will.

I would never recommend the Cambridge Branch, used them once, never again. Always found the Leicester OPC to be very good.

Always amazes me that a simple PR opportunity like this is missed by these dealers. If they had agreed to fix FOC think of the positive reviews on here, instead another dealership that doesn't go that extra yard for the customer

I quite agree. Very disappointing. Thankfully not all dealers are the same. I have heard a few folks recommend Leicester OPC and I use Dove House (Indy) in Rushden for service work and they have been remarkably good. Two of the guys there are ex Porsche Silverstone.

Well that's a great comfort to a newbie in West Suffolk thinking about Cambridge as a geographically convenient port of call in the future.

I know. And I am the guy who recommended Tognola to you for your PPI so you already have some personal experience of my assessments. I am not 'that guy' who finds fault wherever he goes. :-/. When i experience great service (as i did at Tognola) i am just as quick to share it.

To give them their dues I've used them a couple of time in my 3 months of Porsche ownership for my 1987 911 3.2 and they've been a good, friendly bunch, been competitively priced, and the car feels like a different beast than when I bought it. I've no experience if other OPCs to compare.

Disappointing experience for the original poster though :(

That doesn't check out Mike. Sadly. HPI has VK09 FCU as a VW Polo, not a people carrier. But the second letter and last letter on the post it look like the same letter and VK09 FCK doesn't exist.
