Car change

Guys

After 5 great years in my 997 2007 C4S I feel the time is right to change it, as to what I am unsure that is another call I need to make. It has 27000 miles full OPC history. It is due its major service and mot in May. My question do I P/X as it is now and if so what values may I expect ?

I know its an old phrase but the car is mint both inside and out, do I service it and try to sell private possibly on here and if so again what values would be reasonable, and finally If I was going to go to an indy rather than OPC for the service will this be detrimental in both value and void the remainder of the outstanding extended warranty that runs out in August.

Thanks in advance guys for any replies.[:)]

I don't think there's much in it to be honest. It depends on whether you think extra pennies you'll get from selling it privately are worth the extra stress and hassle. Be interested to see the responses here though, as I'm considering changing mine (997.1 c2s).

Not to hi-jack your thread, but what are you changing to? Despite finding the 997 incredibly practical (it's our only family car, but with a roof rack, car seat and finding a pram that fits in the boot, we can do almost anything) - I'm considering sacrificing some driving fun for more practicality. Anyone here made that jump? I'm thinking Audi S4 Avant (but their running costs seem even higher than the Porsche!)

Any advice on more practical family cars that aren't a massive step down from 911 driving enjoyment?

John

Test drive a Macan.

I believe it can do everything you'd want.

2 year wait though for a new one.

My heart was set on a 991 but just had a go in an F Type R and that's thrown a complete spanner in the works, yes I know they are different cars, my car is purely a weekend toy and the F Type did make me smile!!

Thanks JP

If you plan to part ex with an OPC they may say don't bother servicing it as they won't give you any more for it. That's what a couple of them said to me. I part-ex'd my Cayman (because i had run the mileage quite high and so didnt expect a quick private sale unless at a give away price) and saved on any unforeseens popping out of the service. The part-ex value was as good as what I had seen private sellers asking for them. OK, the profit they had in the car I was buying allowed them to dress up a good part-ex price, but had I walked in there with cash they weren't going to offer any significant discount because those cars (Spyders) were selling like hot cakes at the time. So I didn't feel I lost out at all by part ex.

Sold the Spyder private to buy the current car and for a few thousand over the part-ex offers I'd had. Sold it on here in hours. The advert went up close to midnight and the car was sold about 9 am the next morning.

Which way you go depends on the car - how many are on the market already, how sought after they are, will yours stand out & how quickly you want to get into your next car - especially if you see a car you don't want to miss out on.

Oops! Sorry - images bigger than expected [&o]

That's a tall order. Even an RS4 will feel like a step down from a 911 when you throw it into a corner. What you need is one of these, when they exist[:)]

If you are looking for a good price you might like to try Harbour Cars at Chichester.

Then sell it privately using forum and eBay at the price you want. The garage has to make profit which equals loss to you as the seller.

Thanks,

May try that, no problem with a dealer making a profit but 10k really!!! Profit that is not the PX price.

cheers JP

When I asked for a price on my previous Turbo S it was 10k below list, the explanation I was given was that they normally allow to respray the front / bonnet, do a 111 point check with an allowance for necessary repairs (tyres etc) and allow 2.5K for a 2 year warranty before a profit margin.

There is only one car to consider if you want pace, zero depreciation, 4 seats, big boot and limited model run and one of the best cars in the world at any Price - BMW 1M .... [:D] They are quite simply the best car in the World for under £40k and do everything in Spades

good shout on the BMW 1M. Are the boots really that big? especially compared to the storage in a 911?
