Back again"¦.. Rattles from all aspects of the dash and door panels, trim fallen off the passenger door, engine pinking, and a strange rattle from the exhaust. Not bad for a car that has done 5k miles[][][:'(]

HI all

Will the Club be in a position to help your case if the Board sign up to the "contract of co-operation?

See "Closer ties with Porsche" on the Forum.

Have Fun

Paul Kelley

Paul,

THIS Board has made strong representations to Porsche with a detailed RMS survey of the Boxster and 996 Register and now a follow up to the 996.

I don't recall any such action taken in the past. Perhaps you could expose the record on "fiercely independent" challenges to the company?

Btw, the Contract wont change my attitude to such issues.

To be fair, Nic has already stated in the -->Contract between PCGB and the Club Thread<--, that the editorial content of both magazine and forum is unaffected.

By the way, could we keep further discussion of the contract to that thread, rather than taking poor Nick's thread further off topic? (Although I understand the sentiment - it's been mentioned now, and I've put a link to the thread so everyone knows where to discuss it...).

Back on topic....

Nick, you say again what was it before? How many times?[]

Nick -makes the minor problems with my wife's new Alfa pale into insignificance.......in a car that cost less than a third of a 997.......[;)]

Nick
What fuel do you use? A lot of people swear by Optimax but I usually stick in the cooking 95 RON unleaded. However, have noticed an occasional pinking under load at low speeds. Could this be the same problem as you describe?
Only problems with mine so far are stiff clips on the rear seats and a groan from the front suspension over traffic humps - bring back the Tories who've promised to dig them all up!

I presume by this statement you are inferring that the previous board made no reprsentations to Porsche ref the RMS problem. Thats quite true - the RMS was not as issue that was openly heard about or acknowleded as the serious problem that it has now become.
Lets not forget that it was the previous board that got this Forum up and running which has enabled all of its members to put the problem to forefront of members attention and thus ask this board to act on our behalf.
Oh - and yes, previous boards have taken up actions with Porsche in the past, so don't feel that you are alone.

My previous C2 never suffered from these issues of internal build quality, even with the full burr walnut full leather package it came with. I do so miss that car in many ways. This is not fulfilling a dream at the moment, but I'm sure/hoping it will.[]

I use the general stuff at the pump, I may try the Optimax to see if it improves. Thanks for the advice.

Well if its any consolation I'm 'saving up' a list of problems with my 997S and will get it booked in for a few days to sort out, some issues in common with the problems you experience Nick:
- Rattles galore - dashboard, passenger seat shaking about and creaks from the back seat area
- Electric mirror controls fallen apart
- Headlamps steam up inside and seem to annoy most other road users with dazzle
- Engine knock occassionally just after starting the car (and I use shell 98 RON all the time, noticeable degradation in throttle sharpness with 97 and 95 RON)
... and the chrome tail pipes are still on factory back order (yet these are still advertised along with sports exhaust and are clearly not available)
Thats after 1700 miles so not great on a £70k car. Wouldn't have anything else though (with exception of Alfa 8c Competizione)!

Just to add my 2p's worth - mine suffers from NO squeaks whatsoever, despite living off an unmade very potholded road. I was apprehensive having test drove a very squeaky dealer car. Time will tell but I'm still smiling[:)][:)] Oh, and for the record i've only used Optimax so far.
Graham

No rattles or squeaks at all to date, I also travel down a 1/2 mile long unmade potholed track to get to and from our house. Also get the graunch over sleeping policemen, I'll let you know the sound when I run over one who's awake! I tried 95 octane fuel and not good although no problems on 97 or above.

It sounds like teething problems with a new model. When i was working in the trade someitme ago all new models had there rattles etc. Not all cars but a batch out of the new models i am sure you shall get them ironed out and enjoy your 997 as you should.

Phil

Well it was @ the OPC for about a day, with an overnight. I'm still working out if there has been an improvement. Still some rattles there still. [&o]But I need a motorway run first. Still no Chrome tail pipes arrrived from Stut[]

I like Tinhum2002 have had no rattles and the only time it pinks is when i use normal unleaded 95 RON fuel no problem on super unleaded

Hi guys,
3 months update. Everything securely bolted down and no rattles. Just done 400 milesover Easter in Sport setting on country roads. Only annoying sound from CD as if its sorting or loading a disc. Dont know if it is the satnav, autochanger or sigle CD slot in dash. No comparison with my 02 C4 , this car is just in a different class. 24.4 mpg on the run and using a very active right foot ! No oil consumed and tyre pressures as on delivery
total mileage 1337 (well it did rain for most of Jan/Feb in the South West)
