Cargrahic exhaust

I fancy replacing the standard RS exhaust with Cargraphic box, and a 100cell cat. Would it be too loud for the "quiet" trackdays? I suppose I'll need to have the engine re-mapped to have any significant gain in terms of performance, but before I did that, will there be any loss of performance as a result of the change?

Wait for JohnnyP to come along, I believe he has a cargraphic on his,,,,sounds great and seems to pass at bedford & Combe which are amongst the more noise sensitive tracks.

Mick, are you not happy with the standard RS noise and performance then?......or should I ask if you have driven an RS yet [;)]

I wouldn't change too much until you actually find out what you have bought.

Mick -you're like a child getting a new PS3 before xmas[;)]

Wait until you get your toy before you decide what games to play....[:D]

Oooooohhhh, I just can't wait!!!!!
The standard exhaust is just too quiet, could put the RSR from my C2 on it but I was thinking of putting a 100cell cat on at some stage anyway so I thought I might as well do the lot now. It's like X'mas eve everyday I'm waiting!!
Sat in a few but never actually driven one, certainly not on track, so very very much looking forward to Oulton!! I'll wait till I get the car first before actually buying the exhaust but just getting some idea first.

I have the Cargraphic manifolds/exhaust/100 cell cats on mine and it passes everywhere so far, including Donington on quiet days and Bedford. It tends to fail the static tests, then is fine on drive by which is what counts.

Cheers Johnny, that's reassuring to know. Just out of interest, how is a cargraphic manifold differ from the OEM RS one?

Mine are gemballa silencers with techart tips[&:]
Sound good but only 98bcb max, lets me get on anywhere[:)]

Mick there are 2 types of cargraphic,gt and ngt,i think the gt is the louder one, will not get on at oulton.
The smaller diameter ngt and not so noisey, will get on most 105 db days.

Mick
I've got the N/GT system, 105db static/97.8 driveby, its ok now but with the noise police on the rounds....who knows

Paul, you say the GT is a bigger bore, must be bl00dy huge!

I got a set of Cargraphic back boxes from a mate, and was thinking of fitting them to my RS but after looking into the pricing of the matching manifolds it got pretty expensive so instead I went for a full system from these guys.......

http://www.scart-exhausts.com/ang/produits.php?marque=28&modele=16

extremely well made, look and sound great.....not sure what the db level is as haven't had it measured but don't think it is as loud as the Cargraphic system. Will be bringing the RS to Oulton in March so we'll see then I guess.

Speak to Steve at Jaz for more info.

Presumably the NGT one is the TUV approved one, and the GT one is the export?
Thinking of using FVD race cat, Cargraphic box, can I just bolt everything onto the existing OEM manifold? or do I need anything else on the exhaust system to be replaced?

Mick,

I have the full NGT system on my 993 and can confirm that it registers 105db whenever sound tested, which is borderline at some circuits (bedford) and a fail at Castle Combe with a 100db limit. I have some auxiliary silencers from Merlin at Castle Combe which take it down to 98 when fitted.

By the way I will have a set of NGT exhaust manifolds for sale in a couple of weeks time if anyone is interested?

NOt got round to thinking how much I want for them yet.

Cheers

John

John, is that some knid of a bolt on device that can be added and taken off pretty easily, in the pit, or a separate box that replace the one already on the car?

Cheers Johnny, that's reassuring to know. Just out of interest, how is a cargraphic manifold differ from the OEM RS one?

Hmmm. I don't know. I think it is bigger bore and lighter.

The bore sizes are definitely different between Cargraphic and OEM RS ( Cargraphic being larger bore ) - that was the issue I was going to have with fitting the Cargraphic back boxes I had was that I needed to buy the matching manifolds.

Nope....Jaz, removed the standard back boxes on my RS put the CG ones up against the manifolds to fit them and they wouldn't go because of the difference in bore size.

Like I said above, looked into the pricing of the CG manifolds to mate with the CG back boxes and for that price I could get a whole system from the people at SCART - there is a link in an earlier post. Steve at JAZ reckons the quality of materials and welding are absolutely superb, they had no problems with the fitment - just went straight on.

Cheers,

Ben

So Cargraphic make sports boxes for the 993 that dont fit the 993 ?
What cat have you fitted?
The cargraphic sports boxes are clamped to each side of the standard
cat with an internal sealing ring (olive) with external clamps,
the cat is bolted to the manilolds / heat exchangers, this is where
you have to check when ordering 100 cell race cats as there are two
different systems, Bishoff and Gillet, these have different flanges and
one won't fit the other, bishoff has 5 sided flange with oval bore, the gillet
has a triangular flange with circular bore, the manufacturers name is
normally stamped underside the heat exchangers surrounding the manifold
pipes bolted to the six cylinder heads.
The cargraphic sports boxes should bolt to the standard restrictive rs cat,
and the standard rs tailpipes should also bolt to the cargraphic boxes,

Cargraphic states there sports boxes will fit all 993 models apart from the turbo.

Mick,

Yes. I unbolt the tips and olives (one bolt each side) and bolt on the aux boxes in place of the tips and hey presto noise at 98db and the whole job takes about 5 - 10 mins max. I always take my aux silencers with me now in case of sound failure. Each silencer was about £50 plus ~£30 fab from a local welder to create falnges than would mate with the olive.

The fit is really secure. I have done about 10 track days with them now and they work brilliantly

BTW, I have been assured that the NGT (big bore) system WILL mate to the OEM bischoff heat exchangers by Stuggart and have ordered a set of link pipes on this basis. They should arrive this week so will let you know if they don't fit.
