Carrera 2 with GT3 Bodykit or not?

newbie here. thinking of buying my first porsche. looking at a carrera 2, 2003. it has a gt3 bodykit. looks wonderful to me, but am i committing some type of faux-pas here?
And another thing; salesman tells me its just the spoiler and skirt that is different. is this true?

Its just the spoiler and skirt that is different in a GT3 to a normal C2??????

Stupidest thing I've ever heard a car salesman say......

no no no [:D]. he's didn't go that far. just the spoiler and skirt on the car he is trying to sell me thats been changed/upgraded.

anyway...she looks great to me, but i just wanted to know if putting the GT3 spoiler on a porsche is the equivallent of ...say...putting a big spoiler on a Ford fiesta and wearing a Burburry baseball cap...or...buying a tailor made suit for £2k.

That's not a GT3 spoiler - it's known as a Carrera spoiler. The GT3 one is a double-winged affair & obstructs the rear view, unlike the Carrera one which is quite restrained in comparison.

I have the same kit on my C4 & I think it enhances the look of the car - many original purchasers obviously thought the same as there are many such examples out there. The option code is XAG for the Carrera spoiler & X76 for the skirts, if you need to check the on the paperwork

thanks vm. i also think it enhances the look.

it's 0330 hours and i can't sleep as i'm too excited. i feel like a kid again. i'm off for a test drive in the morning.

That's not a GT3 spoiler

Agreed.
GT3 look for C2 or C4 ok in my book, if that's what people want to do, but there are some poseurs who also have the GT3 boot badge [][:'(]

Ahhh sorry. Nx is correct its not a GT3 spoiler and I agree with Andy that the look is fine but don't put a GT3 badge on the back.

Hope you get it and enjoy....[:D]

Hi,

I 'WAS' in two minds about my Carrera spoiler... but now I'm not... I like it :D

I'd be interested in the side skirts too... anyone know where/who/how to get them done ? Does the front bumper need changing too ?

Good luck with your test drive tomorrow, what the spec ???

I'm sure your local OPC would be happy to oblige, but if I were you I wouldn't do it. The skirts add very little to the look for the (no doubt eye-watering) cost of retrofitting & painting them. Besides, you probably have a rarer spec by only having the spoiler [:)]

The bumpers are not affected by the skirts.

Yeeeeha! she's mine now. Christmas bonus 2007 has officially been hammered.
i feel like Mark Ramprakash right now. [:)]
i collect my first serious car and my first porsche saturday.
yeeeha and yeeeha again! mate...i'm top of the world right now.

Pwafer; looks like we share the same excellent taste in cars.
re side skirts: i only had 2 unticked boxes with this car, 1st was the spoiler which on 2nd veiwing looked great and is probably why this car stood out to me in the first place. 2nd was side skirts....i prefer the standard flat look, but its only a side skirt and it's no big deal. 99 boxes ticked out of 100 is fine by me. let me live with mine for a while but i'd be happy to swap skirts if u want (errr...that doesn't sound quite right...anyway...u know what i mean.)

she looks like this:-

As a point of pedantry, you have 18" Carrera wheels, not GT3 wheels....

You may want to raid your 2008 bonus and think about a sports exhaust to really round off the perfect start to the year.

Car looks fantastic by the way!

At last. Finally I have her now. was slightly delayed because wheels needed polishing up and wanted the OP warranty in place before delivery, dealer was to rectify anything that it picked up. which it did....little oil leak.....lots of reading this forum which answered everything i needed to know and dealer sorted it out without blinking. phew!
Wheels now all sparkly and good as new.
Passed OPW 111 inspection. warranty warranted. I'm happy.
Insurance checked out and sorted with multicar deal with Admiral. only extra £350 on top of what i already pay for the BMW. i'm happy with that.
Turns out Tracker was not fitted as described so will have to sort out insurance again...but anyway...minor stuff.

I have been reading this forum from top to bottom for the last 4 weeks, about all the mishaps, problems, hassles and quite frankly it's all a bit scary. That poor bloke Lee, his car broke down after 20 mins and has had a complete 'mare...[:(]

Anyway i'm pleased to report: no oil leaks, flat tires, electrics blinking, lights winking, no black smoke, no smashed windscreen, no bumps, no crashes, no near death experiances....nothing....just a huge smile that i cannot wipe off my face.[:D]
Wow it's soo fast. i have never driven anything like this and what a joy it is!
I should have got one of these a long time ago....
I popped out to get a paper today, i took the long route, took 1 hour. i think tomorrow i will make it stretch a bit more.[:)]
I can't quite believe that i'm planning holidays in france this year just so i can drive down[:D]. wife is happy to fly down with the luggage......how cool is that, it's perfect!

Must say i did get stuck in a massive traffic jam on M40 this evening. totally chock-a-blocka. Sat for ages and i was thinking of Lee wishing nothing bad happened to me. it didn't. even though rush hour friday night in january on M40 is not the ideal time and place to be playing with my new toy i still feel like this.................

Congratulations Dannyp1 !

I know exactly how your feeling... everytime I drive the car (and it's my daily drive!) I just think what a wonderful bit of kit the 911 is. I went to Swindon yesterday, 280 mile round trip from here... M25/M3/M4 were all clear for some reason.. had a really nice days driving and got 31.4mpg average. HOW GOOD IS THAT ! My Audi S4 (4.2 v8) would have iven me around the 22-23mpg for the same 'style' of driving.

One thing to remember with forums is that more people use them for problem solving than simply shouting about how good a car is, so a lot of the time all you see is problems. If you think how many 996's have been sold and how many people are on forums, it's out weighed quite a bit.

Keep on the tarmac and keep us up to date with how you find your new 996Tip.

Paul. [:D]
