Deciding to take the plunge back into 911 ownership.

First - my background:
  • I grew up in the '60s and my first association is of the 911 being a sophisticated tourer rather than an out and out racer.
  • My competence as a driver is average; I probaly drive at 6 or 7 tenths.
  • When I think of the previous porsches I have owned (4 of them) - I have loved their beauty, tactility, balance and power.
  • We have another two cars in the family ( a Lexus RX400h and a Renault Espace) and I will probably do 5k per annum.
  • I have done the odd trackday; mostly commuting, motorway, and the off foray up to the North of Scotland.
  • We have two small kids and my wife hated the hard ride of my latt 996 which had ultra-sport supsension.
So for circa £55k - I can get a March 2005 C2S with 21k,
or a March 2006 C2 with 7k.

Which is better?

Actually - just noticed that the 06 - C2 doesn't hace sat nav. But I could get a 05 C2 with sat nav and less than 9 k on the clock.

So the trade off - is 10k miles C2 v C2S.

Thanks. Had been thinking about some Chris Harris articles where he seemed to be of the less is more school. i.e that 18" and no PASM was more delicate and fun.

Partly picking up on the Chris Harris theme, he sees the C2S as mor eof a cruiser - matching the comments of what you are looking for. If I was after a backroad blast weekend only car with no long runs I'd look for a Sports supspension C2 with short shift and sports seats

Not everyone likes PASM (I love it) but it basically makes for a more comfortable cruiser, add the power kit and Chris harris is minded of the 928 from his articles. So if you like his view of the world you requirements would push you towards the C2S

However owning a C2S they can also be very good fun playtime. I travel a lot for work/family on motorways as well as wanting a backroad blaster. Can't think of a better match than a C2S for any high end sports car.

Very helpful Comment. Will reflect.

The consensus seems to be C2S. I am more concerned by its characteristics than absolute power. I want something "sweet" rather than someting "raw" I think.

From what you are all saying, it seems the better rounded package.

 
I am looking for similar cars to yourself and having the same debate over models.

I have driven a C2S and it was quick even though IMHO it didnt handle as well as my Cayman S and I am not sure a C2 with 30bhp extra is enough to warrant the change.
My biggest problem is that a lot of the cars that are the right price, spec are the wrong colour for me....Arctic Silver. I like silver but may Cayman S is Arctic and fancy something darker like Basalt, Seal or Cobalt. Car also must have PCM Sat nav which seems to affect the prrice more thatn the value of the option cost.

There are few other issues with the OPC like finance quotes but gotta find the right car first.

I like Atlas. But should it have black leather? There is one with Sand. Not sure about Sand?
 
atlas obviously the one to go for[:D][:D][:D]
black leather interior goes great too,but meteor grey looks really nice too
5k miles a yr will bring a 25k miles car back down quickly to low mileage and hence better for depreciation .c2 and cayman really similar in power feeling(imho) s certainly feels quicker,especially with the old x pack!!(see numerous threads here!)

Maybe it will be a bit old hat but I quite like it. Slate is nice but rare and meteor which I like is too new to be on cars that would fit the bill. Atlas is nice but I havent seen enough of it. Black interiors will go with most cars and would be my choice. I dont mind grey but sand...errr not sure. I can imagine it would hit residuals
 
i agree-dont think seal will go out of fashion-classic and understated looks nice on all porsche-i suspect meteor will be the "new"seal .black is always a safe interior but some lighter ones do look nice [:)]
 
Getting back to the original question, 'S', EVERYTIME.

Not to is like putting fully skimmed milk in your cup of Twinnings English Breakfast Tea and insisting it tastes the same.

No brainer, spend the extra cash.
