I‘d urge you to get some decent headlights. You say you don’t drive much at night but also the car is a long term keeper. So your circumstances may well change and the standard lights are truly dismal, truly bad if you want to travel on unlit roads. You might go touring in the car and find yourself having to find a hotel down some dark and twisty lanes, which would very a joy if you only had some lights you could see by. The Bi-xenon PDLS are great I’m told, the LED PDLS+ are brilliant. Literally. If money is short, save a bit by omitting functionless fripperies like a red chrono dial (£245 for a different colour dial FFS) or a Porsche crest on the storage compartment.

Well one man’s frippery is another man’s must have on the 40-years in the waiting car of their dreams
Have you driven a 718GTS4.0 with standard headlights in the dark Graham?
i know the standard headlights on my 987 were dangerously poor, but a pair of £70 twenty-twenty vision LED bulbs rectified that sufficiently well for my high days and holidays, weekends and trackdays (largely daylight hours) usage.
whilst I appreciate the PDLS and PDLS+ headlamps will doubtless be ‘better’ (or at least brighter) I dont want the added ‘intelligent’ technology of them deciding when to dip / where to direct etc. i also don’t like the mess that headlamp washers leave over the wings once operated (nor do I like the ‘wart’ on the front nose that washer jets impose), and as an intended long term keeper I simply don’t want something as ‘simple’ as headlamps laden with costly to replace (or obsolete and unavailable) technology in 10/15/20 years time.
The brilliant sales guy (Nasir) at the OPC proffered that the standard lights (which are still bi-xenon) were in fact very good.
if i find they’re not bright enough I can always upgrade with a 35W bi-xenon bulb and ballast as several folks on other forums have done on the 718.

Nasir suggested I may not receive my car till Q1 2023! I’m hoping this is just expectations management, ie, under commit and over deliver…
im no. 12 on the east London OPC 718GTS4.0 ‘order list’, out of a total of 17 allocations that the dealership has for 2022.

I asked Nasir last week whereabouts I was and was told I am number three on the list. Placed my order on 25/8 and paid the £3k deposit.
Must have been a flood of orders since. Unsurprisingly, the 4.0 GTS (and GT4) are in high demand especially with this series very likely being the last of its kind before hybrid/electrification.

Which OPC are you buying through Jhemus?Jhemus said:I had my day at the PEC on Saturday which was fantastic!
But no allocation yet. I called my SA a couple of weeks ago and I am still third on the list (for a Boxster) and she remains confident I will get my car by the end of Q3. We shall see.
glad to hear you enjoyed your PEC day

They take deposits without having a build slot, pretty dubious business practice that Porsche were supposed to be banning.

So I’ve now had 2 PEC days!
the first in March I think was an admin error on the back of my October silverstone OPC order that I then canceled in November.
the second just last week through my December order with east London OPC.
My SA ‘Naz’ was there and he took me through my spec again and we tweaked a couple of items. He said that all production was still paused currently but should be resuming in May. I’m hoping that once it resumes, having now had my proper order related PEC day that I might get a build slot allocated shortly
after 2 sessions at the PEC, one in both manual and PDK, and the other just in PDK (and a cheeky F430 experience on Silverstone international circuit with flappy padles ) and I think am now a full convert to PDK….

Two days of fun at the PEC - you’re a lucky man!
As mentioned previously, I’m sourcing my car from the same dealer. Did Naz actually say that an allocation might be imminent? My SA continues to say that they have no firm news at all and cannot give me any guidance as to timing. I’m still third in the queue as it stands but have been for a number of months. By the way, I’m pretty sure that a PEC invitation is
unrelated to your order status. I had my session in February.
Fingers crossed for good news for both of us in the not too distant futur.

Hi Jhemus, No, Naz didn’t explicitly say anything about my date, just that production generally was recommencing in May. im just inferring that a PEC invite at least means that Porsche GB have received your order ‘request’ from the dealer, and so I presume that means P-GB have submitted the order to Porsche Germany, which hopefully means a step closer to being allocated a build slot i wonder if you’ve been waiting since Feb simply because of the impact on production from the ukraine war? Perhaps once production recommences in May you’ll receive your allocation. (and then I might too )

If it’s any help at all I was in my OPC at the weekend trying to get something more definite about build allocations for the Macan I paid a deposit on…the BM said that he had been in touch with Porsche UK planning late last week and they had stated that they weren’t expecting to be offering any allocations to dealers until July. Not sure if if that’s accurate or if he was trying to buy time for a few months from an annoying customer like me chasing them up?!
Re PEC,
You could ask your OPC for your build number (Bnnnnn) and Customer ID (BP nnnnnnnnn) then call PEC on 01327 855911 or email them on drivingexperience@porsche.co.uk quoting your build number and Customer ID to make sure that you are due to be invited.

My GTS 4.0 is PDK and is incredible, its faster and the extra 7th gear makes a big difference over the manual.
Lots of views and personal preferences on the subject though.
I'd under a lot of pressure to consider selling from the family... daughter wants to go to uni...wife says we can't help support her while i've got an expensive weekend toy.... i said... maybe university isn't the answer and get a job a McDonalds instead

You're a good father. It's important to learn some of life's harsh lessons early. []Rollinsean said:My GTS 4.0 is PDK and is incredible, its faster and the extra 7th gear makes a big difference over the manual.

Received email from Porsche ‘mothership’ informing me that my ‘expression of interest’ at OPC East London back in December has now been received by them and is an order in process with them.
I’ve tweaked the spec a little:
https://www.porsche.com/microsite/porsche-code/default.aspx?c=/PPIE94P1
Sadly looks like I’ve fallen into the new model year pricing regime, although as some ‘bang for buck’ consolation tyre sealant and a compressor, and regular cruise control are standard fit items now…
