Cayman R announced

Hi Alan I'm a used car buyer, so i'll be waiting a couple of years. So, over to you. I'm happy with the blue you've chosen [:D]. May get a Boxster Spyder whilst I wait for the R to fall into my price range [:D] As the post says, it is unlikely that the successor to the 987 will have focussed variants such as the Spyder or R until a few years after launch and so i'm not concerned about there being 'something better' out there by the time i'm looking to buy[;)]. These will be the most focussed mid-engine Porsches for a while I reckon. Cecil

Ok will do Cecil ;) and keep in mind the next generation is rumoured to be....

Is anybody buying into the Cayman R ? A fully specced Cayman with PCCB and PKD for the price of a C2 ?? And low emissions ?? 219g per Km and 30 mpg ? I get 18mpg out the GT3 MkI which has similar performance but a higher top speed -- which is somewhat academic --- ?????? I keep thinking it could be a fantastic everyday driver ...

More difficult question ... PDK with low VED charge, or manual with medium VED charge ? The manual is now over the 225g /Km threshold, where the standard S is below ... Best part of £200 difference per annum, and you can bet this will increase ...

Interesting mention of VED, I bought my Cayman S with PDK new a couple of months ago and its towards the top banding at £550 a year, higher than the 997 Turbo I exchanged for it. So checking the v5c it says 221 G/KM I'll now check its taxed in the correct band. Just checked the VED website and now understand how its changed. For the first registration tax disc you pay lots, the second year it drops to the current rate as everyone else in that Band (K for the pdk cayman S) so it'll drop to £245 at the current level. So way cheaper than my exchanged Turbo, I'm now car tax enlightened. Paul
