Cayman R - PDK

Why would it be a "no no" Cayman R PDK was one of the best handling cars I've ever owned, I worried about manual vs PDK when I bought it but soon dispelled once driven. Test drive it and see for yourself.

 
There is NOT a manual , Bucket seated car for sale with Crono atm

if you want one with all the driver focused bits pm me, I might sell mine.

I am not a PDK fan myself, tech moves on and imo the GTS with PDK is a better car than the PDK R, if you want PDK gen 2 is light years better.

the manual is more true a car to drive though and hence why these sell and none for sale in the right spec atm, you might sell the GT4 if you buy a manual R lol

 
Advice Please - Looking for a stable mate for the GT4 and am close to pulling the trigger on a Cayman R but with a PDK box ... Is this a big NO NO or not a problem - Many thanks ... Andrew
 
Hi Andrew

I think you will like PDK. Suits the R very well. Also it will make a nice contrast to your manual GT4.

 
Not driven a 987 PDK but recently changed my manual CR for a PDK 981 CS ... just as much, if not more `involvement`. Tried a PDK 981 GTS, good but not worth the premium over the CS.

There is a Red CR with ceramics, buckets, chrono and PDK with low mileage at OPC Newcastle - but nearly £50k ... Would a Boxster Spyder be a better Buy ..???

down to what you want I guess I have them all :) and love them all as much on different days, the Spyder gets the least use as due to the roof etc.

The R is just a connected car, right feel, right performance etc etc. I have had 2 as I missed my 1st one loads. I have too many cars though so it cannot stay like this for me.

All mine are full OPC history, but no warranty as I like to run my own tyre brand and battery. they don't need warranty imo, But any car I sell would be sold with an up to date OPC 111 check which I would pay for.

Absolutely Classic drive set up !!!

 
I always hated autos, but the PDK is different. It really is one of those things that you have to try for yourself.

As a lifelong manual man, and having moved from a manual Cayman R to a Gen 2 PDK 718 Cayman S with all the right bits, you are absolutely correct David.

As a track day day driver, I would not now choose a manual over the latest evo of the PDK. It's brilliant.......and faster......and even more satisfying. Believe me!

Gen 2 PDK enables the driver to concentrate on the lines and carrying speed through the corners. I'm a convert from the manual now. Never thought I'd be saying this.

After 8,000 CR miles in the past year and 600 CS miles in the past twelve days ... oh yes.

odd I really dislike the standard 981, and feel very unconnected driving it. the EPS is horrid and I am still not a automatic man.

not sure how one can come up with the word "involvement" in a EPS automatic car vs a Cayman R !

 
Had a pdk Caymen R since spring after 20 years of manual 911's and I'm well pleased - maybe the nicest thing since Porsche started putting water in its rear and mid engined cars, it's not a 911 but the pdk isn't an issue. For me the question would be why 2 so track focused cars as roads cars?

But certainly I like my R.
