Hi,
Does anyone know what colours were produced in what numbers in man gearbox for the Cayman R
I think i know the most obvious colours.

White . Red. Black . Yellow although never seen one.
Silver. Blue . Peridot.
Think that covers most but is there anyway of finding out if theres been any special order colours also like RS orange and so on?

Many thanks if you can help.

Wasn't there Meteor Gray as well? This site suggests it was available in 15 exterior colours but not sure how accuarate it is [&:] http://autos.yahoo.com/porsche/cayman/2012/r/colors.html

Thanks good info. Dont see a yellow on the list. Would love to find out if theres any special order colours. Thanks

I'm on my phone but if you google 'cayman r brochure', the first result returned should be a Porsche website download of the pdf brochure. In there should be all the colours including Speed Yellow and Macadamia metallic[:-]

Yep here is a UK yellow one:

Hi Tracy I have a Perdiot. If you wanna a colour not on the colour chart for a price I think Porsche would do any colour for you. A&G

Hi Nick You should know me better than that.[;)] I love my Boxster and never cold with the super heated seats[:D] It's Cliff who wanted to know as he is interested in a special order colour R and is also waiting to see if the 981 Cayman GTS is making an appearance or even a 981 R. Thanks everyone for your replies Tracy

Hi Tracy, FYI here's the list. Standard colours: Peridot metallic Speed yellow Black Carrera white Guards red Metallic colours: Basalt black metallic Macadamia metallic Platinum silver metallic Meteor grey metallic Dark blue metallic Aqua blue metallic Special colours Cream white (truly disgusting!) Amethyst metallic GT silver metallic Ruby red metallic Plenty of choice but I suspect that many colours must be very rare in the UK. Macademia could be interesting - a 981 looked good in the showroom. Jeff

Thanks everyone for all your help and info. Was hoping that maybe a RS orange or Viper green might have been a special order colour or there might be a 1 off in such a colour or maybe even Rivera blue. Guess that will be harder to find out and of course if such a car comes up for sale. For now looks like a wait to see if a Cayman Gts comes out or a R version in the future and order it in colour to sample.

Wonders are we going to get an R version 981 or will it just be a GTS model rumoured. Could do with a 981 R sooner rather than later.

I don't know whether a 981 R would work or not with the steering issues being the main problem. It would be difficult to better the 987 R IMHO!

Cliff, There was a lot of P-9 chat recently on this subject. If the rumours are to be believed, it sounds as though the GTS Cayman and Boxster will just be special "S" versions with a slight power hike (~15hp) and a number of options included: 20" wheels, PASM, PSE, leather, sport design steering wheel and custom front and rear PU treatment. An April 2014 release date is a possiblity. Not the car that Preuninger said had been developed, so maybe hopes for a Club Sport or R version aren't unfounded. Jeff

Given that the 981 is made of more aluminium than the 987, (including the doors, front lid and rear hatch, along with many other parts) they'll find it harder to make an 981R much lighter than a 981 S. I'd much prefer they made a 981 Cayman GT or Clubsport. More extreme modifications like they do when they develop a GT3 RS from the GT3. More extreme weight savings such as a perspex rear windscreen. More extreme aero package like the GT3 RS. Much wider track by using wheel arch extensions. I don't think they'd do it and if they did, they'd charge a lot for it. I don't think it would steal buyers from the Carrera though as that is a totally different car to an extremely raw proposition, but it would be the only type of 981 they'd allow to out-peform a Carrera. I think a 981 GTS has nowhere to go as in, there's little extra power they could give it before threatening the Carrera head to head. Maybe it'd be just a cosmetic 'special' with no extra power. A Clubsport could be 'excused' for being faster and would sell in such small numbers not to be a threat. Won't happen though...

Cheers guys have heard the rumours about a GTS. Agree they wont be able to make it much lighter and probably wont even try. But a Cayman model something like an R or Club Sport is what i would look for to swap the GT3. I know it will only be a small power hike we all know why that is! But I would hope for just a few of the options below. Bucket seats Sports exhaust Alcantara wheel and gear shift nice light wheels, sport suspension or lowered something along those lines like the 987 Cayman R & the Sport limited edition. And some decent colours as standard . Cliff

It's a shame that Porsche thinks that people pay an extra £25K for a Carrera over a Cayman S for 0.2s to 62mph. Rather than understanding that they are different cars for different people and some people would rather a Carrera over a Cayman S because it's a 911 or because it gives a rear engined driving experience or because it has 4 seats, even if the Cayman S was just as quick. Other marques let their sports cars overlap - Aston, Merc, Jag. Porsche lets the Panamera and Cayenne outrun a Carrera where they charge more than a Carrera for them. But the Cayman costs less, so gets reigned in[&o]. Even the Macan gets a turbo which will put a Cayman S in its place in a sprint[&:] Why not develop a top end Cayman at the same price as the Macan turbo (£59K) and put the sports car back in the performance hierarchy where it belongs (above 4x4s and large exec cars, not matter what the price[&:])

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJL9v8KXmmo&feature=em-subs_digest Interesting video. The way they talk about how they strive to put maximum effort into their ideas (2:22) makes me think about how they develop their products. Personally for me Porsche is the best automotive engineering company on the planet, all things considered. What they've achieved with the 911 is amazing. Developing successful race cars and race car series. Delivering 620hp through the 3.6 Mezger and RWD in the GT2 RS. Making the 550hp Cayenne turbo S and 570hp Panamera turbo S drivable despite their size. So then when I think about how the 981 has advanced from the 987, have they really taken it to the nth degree. The driving dynamics are no doubt second to none but the power and performance figures don't reflect the capability of the car, or what Porsche are clearly capable of if they tried. I think the 981 S cars are already plenty fast enough for the road but if that was the only aim for sports cars then 400bhp and 500bhp cars would not exist or have any desire. Plus it's not all about nurburgring lap times (handling) and sometimes you have to think twice about whether you can make a particular overtaking manouvre, which you could've made if the car was quicker (i.e. where handling becomes irrelevant) It's clear why the Porsche portfolio is the way it is, but it seems only the Boxster and Cayman don't fully represent what Porsche states as it's company ethos in that video. Enough doom and gloom. Let's not forget the good stuff[;)] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT2wkhg6LTQ

Proves what many already know the Cayman is the best road holding finally balanced model in the Porsche range [;)]
