How many made ROW and Uk?

325 or 330 BHP?

Where they made in Austria or Finland?

PDK or Stick?

retro aircon fit?
 
I have a copy of the original Cayman R Launch pack and will search it out at the weekend to check on the power output but there is a difference between BHP & PS which is the close metric equivalent reading usually found in Porsche documentation, PS is generally a slightly higher figure and often quoted as BHP so you can see why there may be a difference in circulation. 330BHP is the generally accepted figure.

Numbers produced, unsure.

Pretty sure that the 987 R was built in Sweden.

As for production figures PDK or Manual no idea.

Retro Air Con fitting, doubtful as with Porsche wiring looms they are each built individually so as not to have heavy and redundant cables in the car and so while fitting of the condensers, compressor etc may be relatively straight forward then the wiring could cause a large problem area.

It's improved performance is down to weight saving of 54.8Kg due to the removal of the radio, storage compartments, air-conditioning and door handles rather than the 10 extra BHP

With full weight saving it has figures of 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds in the case of the manual and with the PDK and the Sport Chrono package, it can do the 0-60 dash in 4.4 seconds not many gear changes up to 60 mph.[/sup]

PDK has the advantage of a faster gear change but adds the weight saved by being so much heavier than the manual transmission.

From an earlier post on the Cayman forum, but can't verify its validity:

Only 256 Cayman R's registered in UK over the 2 years they were available. Well over half were PDK.

However, another post reckoned that it was only a 10 month production run, with worldwide sales at around 5000 cars.

Porsche quotes 243kW (330hp) DIN @ 7,400rpm, 370Nm @ 4,750rpm. So, it's 330PS (metric hp).

Most 987.2 Caymans were built by Valmet in Finland.

I'd agree with Kevan on the other points you raised.

220 odd UK (on todays how many left site) 256 registered, who knows where the 36 other cars are , exported, crashed or not taxed/sorned.

It's a manual car imo, PDK moves on as do buyers with older PDK, 7 PDK cars for sale at OPC NO manuals ! says all you need to know, a Manual sells within a week at OPC.

AC would be a NO to retro fit imo

243KW or 330hp so that must be 325BHP

over the S it has

Buckets seats

LSD

GT3 Alloy doors aero kit

real SUS (makes the car what it is imo, very well set up by Porsche this time)

Stiffer ARB

more BHP

bespoke 55MM exhaust over the 48mm stock cars

1296kg weight (if no AC, or radio ;-) ) PDK adds 25kg to those figures.

I read the last ones made in Austria, guess the chassis number will tell …. think they also had Alloy bonnet as well as doors?

It's quite possible that some or all the Rs were built in Stuttgart, but I'm not aware that any were built in Austria [by Steyr?]. The majority of Caymans were built in Finland but I believe that those with exclusive options were either built or rebuilt in Stuttgart. As you say, the VIN will identify the build plant.

All Caymans have alloy bonnets but the R used the alloy doors from one of the 997 series 911s [GT3?]. Yes, they're the same.! One of the many components shared by the 987 and 997-series cars.

That's correct Des. The R had a bespoke spring, damper [and ARB?] set-up.

Hi All

My 2011 has a chassis number to verify it was made in Stuttgart.

The previous owner also collected the car from the factory at Stuttgart.

As stated earlier, BHP, Kw, PS are different power ratings BHP and PS being very close to each other.

325BHP = 329.5PS = 242.4Kw and as figures are rarely left to decimal levels of accuracy we can see why many think that it is 330BHP after all some do like to think they have a bit more of anything, it is Porsche's custom to state figures which all of their cars meet or better so that no one is disappointed not a question of getting a good one as with some manufacturers Porsche state their minimum figure.

 
The drive today reminded me off my old Dino 246 both in red with the same view over the front looking at those similar wheel arches, except the Porsche did the 160 miles without any drama .... Trying to resist sport/exhaust and clicking down two gears and hearing the howl Can't see why manual is preferred to PDK .... PDK buy one get one free, I found myself driving the car manually when it suited and Auto in London and sometimes mixing the two!

Sound Package Plus is just a speaker package upgrade. No USB [Porsche are so behind the times..!].

A brolly's always useful in our summer....even with a tin-top.

Glove boxes do stay cool, I think there is a cold air feed off the A/C as was on the 944 turbo I had years ago, the brolly pocket in the passenger side sill cover is useful USB etc would be good to have in all Porsches but then many things ought to be standard such as the auto wiper/dimming mirrors option, I've had it for the last eight years in my Cayman makes it difficult to find a Gen2 to take over from it.

 
Ok give up where is the first aid kit? Guide book vague!

And should the plastic cover over the battery fit flush, I can't seem to get it absolutely flush, find the pins fiddly?

Now here is a poser, in the front compartment boot area is the area described in the handbook as points A and B as a TV Tuner area. TV as in television I presume and not a Berlin transvestite changing facility. Anyway mine is bear, nothing in there, it has two openings and the guide book says don't store anything in there. I can think of a jolly good weekend goody area, but unless you have a TV equipment, what do you do with this enclosed double access area, I presume you all have one of these and not just the R?
