Cayman R Questions

Mine is filled with a bottle of oil, screen wash, microfibre cloths, first aid kit....

 
I doubt there'll be a first aid kit supplied with a UK spec car Des.

The fit of the plastic battery cover is pants as are the two retaining pins, whose grip reduces with age.

Tool kit - you'll be lucky. The panel below the warning triangle contains the locking wheelnut key and tyre repair/inflation stuff.

No idea about the TV tuner area you're referring to.

The handbook forbids anything in area A and B for storing other than TV equipment …" this void has to be kept empty and not suitable for storage" I am quoting from my handbook …… the first aid kit is in the back or front? I must admit the acres of plastic little cubby holes would make a member of the Magic Circle very happy ….. just detail.

However super impressed with the power and handling and that sports chrono with sports exhaust you don't stop playing and the PDK its like a real first date ….. some much more to explore, I have not finished yet loads more little departments to open. Wheres the first aid kit!!!

I've never heard of a Porsche supplied first aid kit in any of their cars, as for the battery cover on my Gen1 I have no problem and this area of the R I believe to be the same but individual builds may have slight differences and I would expect it to be in the locations the pins fit into as plastic mouldings don't tend to vary much.

Just had a peek in my 987.2 Driver's Manual, page 75, and can see what you're refering to regarding access covers A and B, but there's a note stating depending on vehicle equipment. I think that you'd have to have specified the option to get the TV tuner, but I've never seen it. The same goes for the first aid kit which can be secured to the carpet in the [front?] luggage compartment [Velcro strip].

Good to hear that you're enjoying an often underrated car in the Porsche range.

Thanks for clarifying this, my handbook specifically refers to a first aid kit, secured by velcro, so I gather 987.2 did not have this at all. It even says it should be maintained and also has a shelf life! So no one has a factory supplied first aid kit despite the handbook, recall time everyone!

The TV Tuner space, which is not suitable for storage according to the Handbook points A and B is just for that a TV Tuner.No doubt it can be useful as others have described. I was thinking of a European Travel kit, vest, bulbs, GB magnetic badge, "first aid kit" Porsche one would be good though, Triangle already there and a maybe an addition of a Torch … any other suggestions.

Never ever saw negative press on the Cayman, but mainly praise, particularly the R and GT4.

One more thing, was the luggage net standard on rear shelf space on certain models.

Maybe the first aid kit is mandatory in some countries - Europe for instance - but not in the UK, so a cost saving for the supplier. The front boot cubby hole's useful for all kinds of things, as you suggest. A litre of oil might come in handy on a long road trip. Don't forget the cubby holes behind the B-pillars too.

A single luggage net was a standard feature, and I think you can buy them through a PC. Very useful for tying things down in the rear boot and on the engine cover.

I've been running my Gen2 Cayman S for nearly six years now [19" wheels, PASM, Sport Chrono, LSD, etc.]. It's a great car. Enjoy yours.

First Aid kit was included with mine, in the compartment behind the drivers seat (in rear pillar) nothing too exciting though. I was told that the A and B compartments were for technician use only - no idea why and didn't ask.

The CR is my favourite car I've owned (and I've owned a few) the only car I've kept beyond the standard warranty period. Simply can't find anything better that suits me to replace it.

I was never a fan of auto boxes but PDK is in a different class, hence why no order placed for a GT4.

Thanks again for all those replies .... There is another compartment behind driver, not discovered that one yet!

Ok ok another question .... Why is one of my calipers rear offside a vermillion red and not full red as the others .... All works ok and only less than 6000 miles, discs and pads fine, handles well, brakes on a six pence...... found tool kit all there in sealed plastic.

Agree PDK absolute must on a modern Porsche .... If you want a manual buy an old Classic horses for courses ... Would not have a Tiptronic or Sporto again in the old hair dryers, but Porsche have nailed the PDK, can't understand why it's not on the GT4! Understand now want to protect GT3 991 .... Maybe on the GT4RS .... Those marketing boys at Porsche do play the game, always hold something back .... Wait for the mid engined 998 V8 ......[sm=kiss.gif]

 
Just seen the launch control light on the steering wheel ..... How do you employ this ... To be honest don't really want to but nice to know .....

Porsche did not nail pdk in gen 1 , the 981 system is far better, the PDK-S is far better again, the 991.2 car will be far better again and so it goes on.

don't go here :) even future GT3 will offer manual again due to demand. lets leave it at that, as some people want Manual :)

If you like PDK you like PDK that's it, don't say it's an absolute must :) a lot of people hate it and manual R's are quite sort after over the 4 PDK cars at OPC's stuck for sale.

 
PDK in the 981 is really good but I'm told that you can get a Porsche reprogram on the 987 PDK which improves it somewhat, faster change and smoother I'll be visiting the dealership soon so will see if it can be confirmed.

 
As an old school stick shifter having now experienced the PDK with some town and City driving and new Porsche Technology personally and mean personally the PDK suits me ..... It shifts quicker and combination of the paddles gives me the option of both ImHO

 
Yep couldn't agree more although the buttons on those which have it allow changing gear up and down with either hand which can be useful.

I've only had one tiptronic a 968 which was fun but slower than a manual and whenever I've driven PDK always thought it so much better but PDK is the best Auto transmission too makes life very easy in traffic
