Cayman S Spec

I have just chosen the spec on my Cayman S (due Nov/Dec) to replace my 997S and save £20,000. Has anyone read anything about wheel size. The standard 18 inches look really good but is it worth going for the 19 inch wheels. I have a 997S at present with 19 inches and it rides really well. The dealer said for resale everyone will want 19 inch wheels.
Spec:
Seal Grey Metallic, Full leather, Sports seats, Sat Nav, 19 Carrera S wheels with wheel centres.

Thanks

James
997S
Basalt black, sports seats, sports chrono and RAC trackstar (soon to be up for sale)

I chose to stick with 18" wheels. The suggestion is that the car handles better with them, and it is certainly easier/cheaper to get new tyres...

The offsets of the 18" wheels are better for handling - they give the maximum track for both front and rear axles out of all the options.

I've never been a fan of the bigger wheels.

18" should provide the best balance between handling, compliance, comfort and aesthetics. Plus the wheels should be better protected from damage and, as you say, replacement tyres should be better value.

And, if you or someone else wants 19", you p/ex for a set.

Are you buying the car to drive (as they were intended) or to resell later on?

If you are happy trading down from a 997s, and will cruising more than driving it as a drivers tool, then I suspect you might as well put 19s on the Cayman S.

Your words "the 18" look really good" so why even think about 19's! You can't predict what the next owner will or will not want and one thing for sure the salesman saying everyone will want 19's is precisely what his job is meant to be "art of selling" Remember he won't be the one buying when it's time to trade horses again [:D]

If you lay out an extra £1200 for 19's when you sell I would reckon you would be lucky to see £300 back over the same car with 18's so either way you lose financially and you don't get the really good looking 18's[&o]

I really like the look of the 19" Carrera Classic's on the Cayman, especially on that pic of the yellow Cayman that's been doing the rounds. Worth considering instead of the Carrera S wheels?

Thanks for the advice. I will change the spec to the 18 inch wheels. Now what about PASM. It is great for track days in the 997, never used on the road though. Absolutely no body roll. Has anyone reviewed PASM on the boxster and made any conclusions?

Spent some time at Hatfield OPC Saturday speccing my Cayman S for February delivery.

So far: Lapis / Sand full leather interior with rear console in leather, Bose, auto aircon, manual sports seats, standard wheels and steering wheel, cruise, auto wipers, bi-xenon lights, park assist, luggage divider.

It will hopefully be a keeper for me, so we're specifying it for our wishes, not resale.

spec'd it! Just over £50k!! My first brand new car and I have never even seen it.......weird huh? But I guess I'm caught up in the fever of this "brand new" model [8D]

met. black, black leather, 19" sportdesign wheels, climate, satnav, sport steering wheel and seats, PASM, xenon, sound pack, cruise control and park assist. AND MATS!!! £85 for mats!!!!! A touch over £51k to be exact.

Sounds nice.

Ask the OPC to give you free mats; they did for my car and a lovely bunch of flowers for the female passenger. I somehow think that they can easily afford it; some owners have secured free high-speed driving courses as part of the deal - valuable if no discounts are available.

Good luck and many happy, safe and carefree miles in the new car.

The mats weren't available when I ordered - when is your car being built?

According to the pricelist I saw, the Cayman S comes with Porsche Driving Experience "free" - can anyone else validate that?

So sorry, misunderstood you.

I got my free mats when I ordered my Bosxster - together with the flowers, they seemd to be the only freebies!!

yup, free "driving experience" or something like that. no more flowers or mats from Hatfield OPC as they just moved in to a new showroom and have no budget (apparently).

Mine is Dec build. (hopefully 1st week)

Don't you belive it; they can always find something for you. Why not try for a first aid kit, a t shirt or something...

You have nothing to lose.

Good luck.

Last new car that I ordered, we haggled over everything until I was 100% sure that he could offer no more, his boss could offer no more, the dealership could offer no more, etc etc. When I'm spending £35k I don't have any qualms about that.

Then he offered me a nice shiny metal branded pen to sign the contract with. "Nice pen .....!" I said, smiling ..... [:D]

well, now that I have already put my money down and all that, it's going to hard to get anything more out of them. But I will be trying [:D]

got to say that buying a Porsche isn't all the experience I thought it would be....almost like buying a TV or something like that. Didn't feel all that special...maybe I was just expecting too much.
