Center Gravity Technical day March 10th[/b]
[/b]
The 997 is very susceptible to geometry changes and the suspension can be adjusted in various ways to make a car suit your driving style and use.
Those of us that have had our cars checked and adjusted know just how much better the car can feel and handle after having the car looked at by a specialist.
I'm not talking about just the standard settings of a car that many centres can do but something that can make the car feel much more incredible to drive. One company highly regarded is Center Gravity, owned by Chris Franklin whom many will have seen at various club events with his trailer at various concours events including the 5oth year event.
Chris has invited us to his workshops to see just what a difference can be made to our cars and all within Porsche tolerances.
The workshops will be open for you to view and look around after its recent refurbishment and additional equipment newly installed.
At least one 997 will be on the ramps for you to see exactly what the geometry adjustments do and what parts are replaced to keep the car in 100% form. Chris has refurbished many Porsches over the past years and will discuss which parts wear and can cause us issues in the coming years (he has already done my top mounts).
He's also happy to answer your geometry and suspension questions during the day.
We will also be joined by the West Midlands region on the day.

This is both a informative day and a technical day for those attending.
I will be looking at doing an optional short drive during the day that encompasses the test route that Chris uses to prove the cars to see for yourself what he is trying feel and hear on the route. He will talk about what you should be feeling for prior, so you know what you should be looking for.

The premises are in the heart of the UK in Atherstone and easily reachable by the motorway network of the M42, M6, M1 and the A5
Premises will be open for arrivals from 11am

Say Gary,
Lets hope its still not my car up on the ramps, especially after OPC Sutton reckon there is nothing wrong with it.
Chris hopes you might swing buy and venture an opinion. See you March 10th. Before Chris can work his magic, we think there is a fault with the PASM.

Ah! It's your is it [:)]
It was mentioned today with Jayne that they had one with what they suspected PASM issues - although as you say the OPC say nothing wrong.[&:]
John, I'm on the road tomorrow, so will drop by and have a look and a catch up with Chris

Will be away on 10th March but....... have an appointment for Chris to work his magic on 8th February. Hope to report the results later

We now think the problem lies with the dampers not reacting to signals from PASM controller. Chris taking dampers to nearby Bilsteins to be tested. It felt to us as if fronts stuck on sport and rears on soft, ( the dash buton has no effect ).This produced extremely entertaining behaviour when Chris threw the car round his pet testing roundabout.

He now also has some hard data to compare it with [;)]
Be interesting to see what Bilstein come back with.

Looks like a good turnout so far with ourselves and the local region attending.
It's a free to attend day and worthwhile visit to see a very reasonably priced way to improve your car.
Also to get to see the engineering that goes into our Porsches.

It will also be a great chance ot catch up prior to the full season of events being as the day won't be affected by the weather.

Gary
Do we need to book with you if we want to attend ?
If we want to do the drive I assume you be taking bookings as usual on a first come basis.
I've said for some time should get car done so would be good to see what Chris actually does.

Geoff

Geoff, It's quite an open day being as I don't know who else is coming from R9
I have a list for those that want to do the route drive and I'm looking at doing the extended route more than once- it is rather good [8D]

However the main emphasis of the day is the technical side of it and with white stuff falling at this very moment, the idea is the day is unaffected as much as possible by the weather- you could attend in the 4x4 if you so wished.

I hope to join you at this event and see at first hand what the assessment and set up involves!
Will you need names for the drive? If so, please put me down!

Andy

Excellent Andy
I have you on the list... I may do more than one circular drive during the day [:)]

Today collected car from Chris and met up with Jonathan having his cab. looked at. Words fail me as to how to describe the car, unbeleivable is probably best. New front bilsteins and final geometry check has made the car even nicer than my old C2S. Just more grip and power.

John

You looked a happy man after the test drive today. I did not think there was too much wrong with my car before visiting Chris but he has transformed the handling and I am very pleased.

I am sure all visiting on 10th March will be made very welcome by Jayne and Chris. Unfortunately I will be out of the country on that date but would have otherwise attended.

John, really glad it's sorted.... OPC still saying nothing wrong with it [&:] makes you wonder..
I'd of popped down to say hi- but I'm sure Chris and Jayne are sick of the sight of me [:)]

Gary, Chris is considering offering OPC a chassis workshop tutorial for their staff, tongue in cheek so to speak. I think they were relying purely on the diagnostic results which showed all in order. I cant help but wonder what has been happening to this vehicle before my tenure, I think the car is crying out to be cherished. This was one of a list of defects, others mostly cosmetic though, apart from the Porsche VTS unit which had died. Hope all is well now finally.

I was lucky enough to get my car sorted by Chris over the Xmas holiday. I knew that the car was not "right" but I continue to be astounded by the changes he has made. The car carries more speed into corners and now flows from bend to bend smoothly and with very little effort. This is my first 911, having had 3 Boxster S. As I said to Chris it is now the car I thought I had bought. A comment he has heard before. I am sure the day will be very beneficial for all that attend, unfortunately I will not be able to join in.
