Cheap Boxsters......

Well, I've looked at 4, none of which have quite hit the spot. I'm going to look at a 2000 Boxster S on Saturday, it sounds really good so hopefully that will be the one.

I have just purchased my first Porsche, a Boxter S, 20 years old and 77,000 verifiable miles on the clock, came with a full service history + MOT's and every Bill the car has ever generated. Basically I find if you are planing on spending the sort of money you are, then a bit of PPPPPP (Prior Prep Prevents P**s Poor Performance). Boxters are cheap as a rule, compared with other performance cars, 5k will undoubtedly get you one with all the bells and whistles and MOT's and a full service history and one that you won't mind throwing around a bit on a track day. I found that the most popular model for sale was the 2.5, and when you seek insurance you will see why its the 2.5 and not the 3.5 that ticks a lot of boxes. Get somebody in the trade to give it a once over, if the seller or dealer balks at that, walk. Both the AA, the RAC and a number of Porsche independent specialists actually offer such a service. Do a HPI check, around £40 or so but saves a whole load of worry. Mine has had several personalised number plates (and is about to get another), which can cause some confusion but thats where the paper trail helps. There was some confusion and potentially a possible clocking, but the MOT's showed that the problem was a dealer recording the wrong millage, which the MOT certificates assisted in sorting out.

Just put her in for a Major service, and the report back was sound with some age issues but nothing major.

Me? I wouldn't buy any car for £5k without a paper trail to support what is alleged, and I have have bought some really nice stuff over the years. Make your plan and stick to it, and don't be swayed by a nicely valeted motor with a slick dealer but no history.

The Leicester Main Porsche dealer, tells me that over 85% of all Porsche's ever built are still on the road, which must say something about the Marque?

Private plates are not an issue, check the MOT certs for the VIN number.

There has not been a 3.5, but there have been; 2.5, 2.7, 2.9, 3.2 and, I think, 3.4.

Generally, of course, the smaller the engine the cheaper the insurance.

The design of the engine is referred to as a Boxer, the name of the Porsche model is a Boxster.

Thee one I'm looking at is private, the history isn't full but is enough to suggest savvy owners. The current owner has had it three years and has most of the receipts for work carried out during their ownership, this includes a new centre radiator and water pump last year. The car has a lot going for it but it's quite a distance away so I've bought a return train ticket just in case.

I bought my 1999 2.5 Boxster last November for what I would term as 'little money.' It has just had the one owner with Porsche and independent history but all done according to the book. It had covered a genuine mileage of 53,000 with all the MOT's to verify the mileage.

I picked the car up in Brewood, Staffs and drove it back to my home in Scorton, Lancashire and I have to say I had the biggest surprise of my life. Easy to drive with the tiptronic gearbox, really comfortable and best of all ..... economical.

After a day or so I thought I'd better get it checked over as the intention was to take the car over to our holiday home in Spain, so I sent it to Jasmine Porsche over in Nelson. I just said 'Do what's needed' and left it with them. They did as I asked and believe you me the car came out of there totally different.....like new!!!! I took the car over to Spain in December, it's still there, and it's the best car I've had the pleasure of driving. So much so I'm impressed, really impressed and at seventy two years of age that's not easy. I might try and find something a bit newer, maybe a 2004/5, when I bring the car back over here in Scorton to have it serviced and MOT'd in November.

Great car, little money, what more can one say.

Top down, foot down!

Thanks for all your encouragement, this weekend I bought a 2000 Boxster S

Drives nice but there is some work to do, so it'll keep me busy

I have just bought my first Porsche a Boxster 2.7 2000 plate 70,000mls. Collect it on Friday (15/7/2016).

Looking forward to driving it, taking to our holiday from the Midlands to South Wales.

Also meeting the Midlands group of the first Monday of the month.

Welcome to Boxster ownership and the most active section of the PCGB forum (probably...)

I know the 911, guys & galls will disagree (but what do they know) but to my mind the Boxster is by far the better looker, especially with the top down.

I love my 1999 2.5 Boxster with the toptronic box. So comfortable. I drive it over to our home in Spain and on arrival it feels like I've just driven on a local journey. Cracking little motors. I'm so so so very impressed with the car. I was thinking about upgrading to something like a 2005 model when I bring the car back to our home in Lancashire in November but would I find anything as good? After all, this car has only had one owner besides myself and has yet to hit the sixty thousand miles mark.

Foot down, top down.

Hey, I'm new, in fact this is my first ever post on a forum anywhere!

I've just bought my first Porsche just 3 weeks ago after looking for the best part of 3 months at everything that came up on all the usual sites. I looked at some utter dross but they made what I have bought look fantastic. I had a check list that I had set and if it didn't meet any of the requirements on the list I walked away. The best advice I can offer is spend as much as you can on the car, I ended up blowing my budget completely and be honest with yourself. If it doesn't feel right it isn't. That and all of the advice above about checking all the common faults but things wear out and need replacing, that's a fact you have to ready for. In the 3 weeks I've had my Boxster I've spent just over £1k on it but that was a major service and appraisal which led on to a water pump change.

I now have a car I've wanted for years that puts the biggest smile on my face that I trust.

Good luck, take your time and treat yourself....You wont regret it!!!
