Are you going to fit them yourself?

Great opportunity for a mega "How-To" and I have 'ovies'

JCB..

John yes!

I have just bid for a new ali jack on ebay and will pay for it out of the savings by fitting myself

How about you and Mark coming over for a fitting bee with a full Sunday lunch on offer?

Hey Nic,

I did the samer thing as you in the summer. Bought new disks and pads and fitted them myself. No previous experience!
I can't remember the great web site I used to help me do this, but if you search for my posts you'll find it.

First disk and pads took 1 hour, second set 30 minutes...most of that time was taken up with the wheel bolts....the job is pretty easy if you have all the tools required.

In the link mentioned (which is excellent), I'd also add a pair of small g-clamps to hold back the pistons on the calipers (use a pad to stop any damage)...otherwise a lot fo force is required ot push them back, when fitting the new pads.

Don't forget to reduce your brake fluid level when the job is finished, as your thicker pads will push the pistons further in, forcing the fluid back into the resevoir. (I used a straw, dipped into the fluid, whilst blocking the other end with my finger!).

And finally get the bolts torqued up correctly at your local garage (if you don't already have a torque wrench). Kwik-Fit, did this for me for free.

Thanks Rodney,

I will look for your post!

I have a T-wrench but need the setting

If your going to change the pads, you might like to try the Pagid Fast Road (black's). Had them in my S & they were very good.

Andy,

This is on the S.
actually, I am fitting the standard pads back on after 18 months having Performance Friction racers which have ruined the wheels with baked on dust I just cant shift

If you have pads with some life left in, it's obviously worth re-fitting - I think the OE's are Brembo's.

I have found that the best way to deal with brake dust is to spray the insides of the wheels with a silicone spray (being careful to avoid the tyres) once they are properly clean (wheels off) after each track day. Then the worst of the dust can be wiped, or brushed off dry next time.

What are the after market alternatives? Some use EBC pads, why not the discs too? Anything more interesting out there - something grooved maybe?

Andrew

Nic take a look at both these threads on the 944 Register for some links to most of the parts suppliers:

I think you'll struggle to beat Eurocarparts on price with our 10% offer

As for Mark (we've always known he's all torque) [:D]

Thansk everyone, I have ordered teh Zimmerman disks from EuroP, and an ali rally jack off Ebay so are close now
