Check your tyre repair Kit

I am pleased to report that my tyre position has now been resolved to my satisfaction. I have to say my OPC at Bournemouth always trys very hard for me so full marks to them. I have not been able to source Corsas anywhere so will be switching to Cups. It is not fair to publish the deal I have been offered but I am happy with it.

My OPC also told me that there is a recall underway on the centre locks so all of you that have them should be getting a letter soon. If you dont I suggest you contact your OPC

Interesting.

Is there an indication of any specific problem?

Clive.

Well done OPC then! There seems to be a national shortage of 305/30/19 N rated tyres by any manufacturer looking around the interweb. My rears have probably no more than 2k left in them so I thought I would start the search for Bridgestones. My local is part of the Protyre network and they don't have any, anywhere. At least a 4 week back order according to Bridgestone themselves - so I've got them on order...........

Centre lock wheels keep coming undone then..............?[;)]

I havent got the details yet Clive. They said they had just received a 14 page document setting out what checks they had to do. I will get the details next week when I collect my car

The insertion tool appears to be like a big threading needle,
Indeed it does appear so but the "eye" end is split so that, presumably (as I haven't tried it!), as you rotate and pull out the split end opens to leave that end of the stick on the inside!  I shall have to practise on an old tyre I have lying about the place so that I can watch what happens!![:D]
My repair kit has just arrived, but there's no split in the needle eye.

I'm therefore unsure as to how you can remove the needle from the tyre whilst leaving the plug in place. [8|]

Well, I think I win the prize for the most expensive Puncture !

Last week I was in the French Alps and the Turbo ran over a fallen rock on the road, that was about the size of a large fist.

The front wheels missed it but it caught the rear wheel and holed the sidewall and made a large nick in the rim.

The recovery to the OPC at Antibes was €800 then the OPC said they couldn't get a Mitchelin Pilot sport tyre so it had to be 4 new Pirellis plus a wheel which was a further €3796,28 and if you add the Taxi charge to Nice airport to pick up a hire car and three days car rental, it come close on £5,000 for the lot !

Bring back the spare wheel is what I say !!!

You have the Silverlinetools kit? So if you insert a screwdriver (or Porsche key, as below) into the eye the end will not open up Clive? If not you have a dodgy one! [;)]

Alan,

You're quite right - I do have a split end - so that's good. [;)]

I'm now trying to find room for the car jack, wheel brace, pliers, torque wrench and tyre inflater and I'll be all set. [&:]

Clive.

Porsche European breakdown and warranty.... makes the £5k look cheap [;)]
Always my biggest worry when abroad []

I have now had the chance to drive the GT 3 on the Cups. First impressions are they are quite a bit noisier than the Corsas and they really need some heat in them before they start to offer good grip. I am sure they will be great on the track but I would prefer the Corsas on the road any day.

I have now bought a spare partly worn Corsa on E Bay so my old tyres will go back on the car one day to get used up

Its interesting to note that although I only had a small hole in the tyre driving the car onto and off a low loader wrecked the sidewall of the tyre. This made the whole expensive more expensive and time consuming than it should have been but however you look at it is is time for Porsche to sort out the tyre suppliers. Insisting we use only N rated tyres is fine provided you can actually buy them. Not being able to get spares for a car that is less than 18 months old is riddiculous

Well had the car on an airfield track today and ended up with a rear tyre puncture, quite a decent sized hole as the tyre was flat within a few minutes. The hole was well away from the sidewall so decided to try the Silverline kit out rather than the tyre foam. Well to cut a long story short within about 20 minutes the tyre was fully inflated again, no jack required as we just rotated the wheel so the hole was accessible to the insertion tool. Very simple process and worked first time so was quite impressed.
I did think about calling the recovery service as I was 100 miles from home, and in theory I guess that's what I should have done. But keen to get moving I decided to drive on carefully while monitoring the pressure and see what happened. Basically nothing happened and did the 100 miles at max 60 mph, never lost any pressure at all.
Question is if a temporary non certified fix can actually appear to work, surely a professionally carried out repair should be perfectly fine, at least for road use ??
If not looks like I'll have to join the queue for some Corsas !!
