That's the best way to do it. Similar to the difference between an off the peg suit and a tailored one. In cost as well, of course.
 
made to measure will definitely be more expensive, but the differnece may well be worth it. I guess its relative to the buyer :)
 
Everyone has to decide when a mod enters the realm of "silly money" and it will be different for each individual. By the sounds of it the chips sold by Promax (whatever their origins) offer a decent improvement for a reasonable outlay even if they are "off the peg" and therefore dont have the required kudos for some [;)]
 
Im definitely not saying everyone should go down that route. Im suggesting it as an option to think about.

I think if someones car is otherwise standard then an off the peg chip is probably the very best value for money. If you have done a few other mods, then a bespoke chip is the next best thing. If you want to be totally mad, then you can go for a totally customisable engine management system.

I totally agree, its horses for courses.....
