Christening Music for a New 997

Gents

Thanks for all the ideas, I thought it might be fun as previous posts suggested there wer a fair number fo music fans out there.

My thoughts were veto'd by the wife, who, as always, was right - I am giving away which decade I was young during:

Selected CD is: Sisters of Mercy - Dominion/Mother Russia and This Corrosion, 20 minutes of Goth/Dance fusion heaven and a gaurenteed jail sentence for maxing the car out, 'cause you have to with those tracks.

Also not so big over here, but huge in the states, Van Halen, yes I know everyone knows Jump from the 80's but there really is more to them than that...try out the F.U.C.K album ( For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge ), bit of a childish title in a kind of French connection UK way I know, but again very good goodtime music, and the talent of Ed Van Halen is just awesome...
Hmmm think Id better stop now, it seems we could all go on for sometime on this one!!

I agree. I'm a MASSIVE VH fan. You can't go wrong with most of their stuff. The early albums are pure rock and roll party. Oh and F.U.C.K. was done long before FCUK became popular!

Good Man Chrono. pleased to hear a fellow VH man on the site. I flew to the USA in Nov 2004 to watch the last two concerts in Tucson, oh and I might have flown to Las vegas in August to catch those two as well..best rock show on the planet. Its such a shame the music scene in this country is just so led by what Radio 1 plays, the business ramp up a band, get the kids to buy it then dispose of them and repeat the process...its all just about making a quick profit, all run by greedy profiteers nowadays. However if you look in the states, they appreciate & get chance to listen to a vast cross section of music from country style right through to heavy stuff, their music tastes are not dictated by fashion but by ability and taste...we really do live in a sad country for music nowadays
When I went to the VH concerts in the US for example, the crowd were fantastic, made of of older people with young kids, very attractive girls, mums with kids & just everyday kind of people having a really good time. Try going to whats classed as a rock concert over here and all you see is the rougher end of the population and chahces are you will be in a rough place too.
Anyway off the soap box now...big celebration needed as Dave Lee Roth & Ed are touring this year in a reunion....I will be booking my flights as soon as the schedule is published.
Sorry for going on, I know its a porsche forum not a Van Halen forum, but hey thats it now....what is understood need not be discussed.

Follow that up with the extended mix of "More" and you'll have given your new amp and speakers a good work out - you might have to wipe the blood from your ears though [;)]

You are a friend for life! I am very very jealous! [][&:][:D]

I can only hope that Diamond Dave and the boys will come over here for a couple. It's a long shot (their European jaunts haven't been very plentiful).

You'll have to pm me on how Wolfie did filling MA's shoes. It's a tall order for a fifteen year old don't you think?

Uh oh. I hear the forum police "Off topic special branch" coming up from behind!

we really do live in a sad country for music nowadays

We live in sad country full stop !

Anyway, OU812 was the last album I bought of theirs, have they done anything decent since ?

Could I also suggest Metallica's 'Black' album as suitable noise for the christening party ?

Yves

Not done anything since OU812 Yves, they have not been the most productive band in the world unfortunatley. Rumours abound that a new album is in the offing to support the tour but we shall see....and indeed you are right, the country is sad, but please dont get me started on that one!!
Agreed Metallica's 'Black superb album...Trying to get a little more upto date, Ive found Maroon 5's Live Friday the 13th album a really good listen too, good mixture of slow & fast, rock/pop/classic stuff.

Master of understatement ! OU812 was almost 20 yrs ago ! ( 1988 )

Its a good job Porsche bring out a new soudtrack for us every few years isnt it.

Yves

Well Actually I lie Yves...they did do Van Halen 3 with Gary Cherone ( from Extreme ) in 1997, but thats best forgotton really. Then when they released the best of album in 2004 they did put 2 new songs on that. I think Ed's drink problem/cancer/divorce and LSD ( lead singer disease ) has kept things pretty quiet really.
But on the upside Ed has had quite a few porsches, so he cannot be all bad, and if you listen to the song Panama from 1984, in the interlude in the middle of the song the whoshing sounds in the background are Ed revving his Lambo Countach into a microphone, in the words of Micheal Caine, not a lot of people know that!.,,but when you know what it is you can hear it pretty well!

I'm very sorry to admit that VH3 with Gary Cherome was a complete pile of poo. What on earth were they thinking of? You wait all those years for a new VH studio album then they do that. It was heartbreaking.

And was it really TEN YEARS ago? I can't quite believe how fast time is passing at the moment.

OK, my other recommendation would be Kings of Leon. One of my favourite bands and a worthy successor to the "southern drawl" style RnR crown once held by Black Crowes.

And of course, we have all forgotten the must have and quite brillinat Appetite for Destruction by G 'N' R. Sadly, that's 20 yrs old too !

Awesome !

Jesus F. Christ... Led Zeppelin, Motorhead, Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Van Halen, Oasis... thank god for wikipedia and other online history of music sites!!! how old are you lot?!?!? ;p

Class quality music is ageless Ronnie, its only in the current times that music has become more about fashion and groups come and go on a monthly basis, depending on what haircut is current.
Mozart & chopin are not exactly current are they but no one complains about them being dated now do they!!
So yep ok Im 42, a good age to be able to appreciate music from all era's, however it does Radio is off the cards thank god!

however it does Radio is off the cards thank god!

Whoops that should have read 'it does mean that Radio 1 is off the cards'...its my age cannot type as fast as I think!

I'm 36. That's old for a teenager, but probably not so old for a 996 driver!

Most of these bands were around and huge when I was 14-18 years old. At that age they cement into your psyche and become lifelong friends. GnR, VH, Motorhead, Metallica - all huge in the eighties and all still just as important with the new generation today as they were with my generation - just ask any teenage rock fan.

Come on Ronnie. Spill the beans - how old are you? [&:]

Looks like most of us are in the 35 -45 or 45+ categories......

I am with the chap earlier - I am sure its only recently that fashion has come before music. And before any one points Bowie out to me he was still about the music first. Of course it could just be age

Ditto.

My ( wifes ) Girls Aloud album is actually very good on the Bose by the way.

Best of Iron Maiden is quite entertaining too !

Yves

You need pictures to be able to fully enjoy Girls aloud Yves!..might I suggest fitting a TV tuner to the Info system, so you can relish them in all their glory
