and this it the stuff you need to make the electric mirror and window switches disappear:
Now that is awesome! I have been looking for those two trim pieces for ever. So you have a part# for each side? I assume your local OPC ordered them?

Which pieces? If you want the switch panel itself then you need the passenger side one from a RHD car (mine is just a LHD passenger one) which is 945.555.271.01.
If you mean the actual blanks for the switches then they are 951.613.255.00 and they cost an eye-watering £5.67 each!
I actually prefer wind-up windows - something I confirmed to myself when I ran my GTI for 6 months, and I can live without power, heated mirrors. Actually the 968 mirror conversion is something like £70 cheaper using manual adjusters and unheated glass, should anyone else agree and fancy them. I'm just going with manual 'elephant ears' for now though.
I just got the window regulators at about 5pm and I haven't even unpacked them yet - I was fitting bits of dash trim to the cab - and now it's dark. I'll weigh them tomorrow and compare with the electric ones. I'll also strip out large chunks of the loom which will save grammes more.
I think the cental locking and power rear hatch release will go as well, as will the headlight height adjusters as I really want the bit in front of the gearstick empty - the roof is the only biggie there, but also the biggest gain, and all from the right place.
So far I'm £15 down on my lightening and I still have both electric window regulators to sell, so it saves money as well as weight...
I spoke to Southbound today and I think they can supply linen carpet that will be close enough to my existing to let me fully remove the rear seat and I already have one front in my lounge ready to clean up before they go on the market.

Don't clean them up too much or I wont be able to afford them.
I can also recommend stripping wiring looms as a fun pursuit - loads of fun when you want to keep 2 wires from a pack of 25 or so, so you can't just chop it all off. I was astounded by the wiring loom for the driver's door - so much so I took a picture which I can post later if anyone cares to see it. I have stripped and chased it back into the kick panel behind the tailgate release and I will continue from there back to the console and across the car to the other door.
Anyhow I now have a drivers door completely devoid of rubbish (OK I kept the HiFi speaker pack) - no electric window, no central locking, no flashing lock button, no electric mirror, no switches. I took the time to make up a new waterproof membrane as well, which was fun in today's wind.
I've decided the tailgate release has to go as well - it looks like quite an easy job since the motor works by actuating a cable, so I just need to change that for a longer one. Anyone got any suggestions where I can look for one? The 968CS is expensive and also the 968 has a different mechanism and in any case I want my release to come out on the driver's side.
What do you guys think the linen seats are worth? I trawled Titanic and I see people paying between £600 (for a full non-sport interior with door cards and carpet I think) through £500 (for sport seats and door cards) to £400 (for what may have been a pair of sports front seats or may have had a rear too, but in red). Mine are pretty good really, much better than my cab's seats and they are not that bad themselves.

That certainly is a faily extensive lump of copper, you could gain .25kg dumping that. []

Are your 'spare' seats non-sport in linen cloth with electrics? My drivers seat has developed a hole on the side bolster and I believe the linen cloth is out of production.

No, they're sports leather with the basic electrics only. I think it's also fair to say that they are as good as sold as a set since I have had more than one offer for them already.
No problem Fen thanks anyway.

Was there a plastic membrane between your door and the door card? If so, did you put it back? And if so, what did you use to stick it on with?
Cheers,
Jim.
(Driver's door also in bits)
