What would be the opinion on here if I bought a 968 Sport for £14k, blinged it up a little bit and then advertised it as CLUBSPORT for £30k...

..and the first line of the listing on the website read.. "Confusion aside this model is a Sport on the logbook".

It wasn't 14k, it was 14.5 plus delivery plus expenditure on parts and recon.. I can see the headlines on the front pages now "Business in profit making shocker"

Besides.. a Sport is actually a Clubsport.. the COA states so..

All the forumites got their panties in a twist. Was priced no more than a good Sport. Maltons want £35k for the same car. A private man on PH wants £30k for his Sport not as clean with more miles. If it said 968CS on the logbook we would have been asking £45k.

Not unusual for Sports and CS's to get confused - to the uninitiated. The sports were a UK only spec, just over 300 cars off the CS production line - and thus showing as CS's on Porsche COA's. However, the Sport standard spec included a number of items off the "options list" for CS's - known in the rest of Europe as the lux pack, so you'll see continental cars advertised as CS Lux Pack! Basically the Sport added cloth comfort seats, electric boot release, windows and mirrors, rear seats, possibly sunroof - and like other models, additional options were available like aircon - there are even "proper" CS's with recaro hard shell seats, rear seat delete, no sunroof - but aircon! The only thing that seems to be common between CS and Sport is 17" wheels and 20mm lowered suspension - but whereas a "proper" CS had colour coded wheels (except Black, which came with silver wheels as standard), Sports came with silver wheels as standard. However, I'm sure that either model could be specified at original order with whatever wheel colour took your fancy!

Even the track oriented M030 suspension and LSD was an option, not a standard item! About the only options not available on the CS order form was tiptronic or cabriolet - although I believe Porsche did build one CS cabriolet, but it's the only one and it's in their museum!

If you want chapter and verse on a 968, unfortunately the 968 section on here is rather quiet, but the specialist forum www.porsche968uk.co.uk is rather better.

Before anyone asks, I have owned FE Porsches for 20 years - a 1983 944 lux then 1986 944S first, then a 968 tip coupe for 12 1/2 years and my current 968 tip cab for 5 years since I sold the coupe.

Thanks Chris. It's not as if we advertised an S2 as a Turbo or a 996c2 as a GT3. The chap who bought it was under no illusion what he bought and he is happy with it. There was a lot of flapping on the forums as we bought it for a song and stuck a large margin on it.. this is frowned upon, but as the saying goes, the profit is in the buying not the selling. If we buy it cheap, doesn't mean we sell it cheap, just means there is a larger margin to be had. Granted, maybe not so clear when initially advertised as CS spec, but as you know, it is a CS with some extra elec bits - like the elec boot lock and motor which was deleted (replaced with a manual release T pull handle) and the rear seats and belts were deleted and replaced with a shelf, so indistinguishable. It even says on the 968clubsport dedicated website that many owners do this. If one searches on mobile.de you will see CS's with leather and aircon, elec (lux) pack, rear seats etc - spec far beyond a UK sport. As above, the COA states these cars to be clubsport, call your opc and quote the vin they tell you its clubsport. As long as the buyer knows exactly what he is buying (and he did) and there is no deception I don't see what the fuss was about.

That text was added much later. I don't care what people sell their cars or their houses for, good luck to them. Even if a goat is born in a stable putting a saddle on it doesn't make it a horse...

I bought that car from Mark at THE MODERN CLASSIC CAR COMPANY and have recently sold it to a PCM I can honestly say that Mark is a very genuine guy and i would have no hesitation in recommending him i never even went to see the car much to far but based on the high resolution pictures he sent me approx 50 i bought it and it was 100% as described the car i am refering to is the 944 s2 in turkish blue
