Hi all,

due to the curve ball all us convertible owners have been thrown - that is, the best British weather in ages and no opportunity to get the car out for a proper run! Who has taken the chance to really give their beloved Boxsters a proper clean?
Here are some pictures of mine! No prizes for best job... just think of it as an online meet ??

Yes spent ages car cleaning. A few jobs to do. 1. Remove the hardtop. 2. Work out why the parking sensors are unreliable and 3. Change the dash cam power supply

Hi Richard,

it's looking good! I like your wheels, you don't see many with those. 18" 911's aren't they? I agree hardtop has to come off though so you can at least get the roof down on the way to the shops :ROFLMAO:

Alistair - I find the engine bay should be viewed in the same mystique a fully dressed woman is (in the words of Swiss Tony) - Underneath, it'll either look better than expected, worse or a complete mystery as to how it works :ROFLMAO: and that's good enough for me!

Washed, scratches and swirls removed, then polished.

Now thats shiny![:)] If I didn't know I'd say that was a blue car it's shining that well! I am assuming it's balck from your profile pic:ROFLMAO:

Hi.
Mine is SORN again at the moment but the image attached is after a little polish up and ceramic coating last year. Atlas is a great colour in the sunshine[:D].
Cheer

Good thread!
Good idea to detail the areas under the 'boot' dash covers, I know mine look like a zoo is living in there. If sunny, job for tomorrow.

Have a clay bar etc lined up for a DIY clean n polish, white 987.2, maybe next week if the weather improves.

Still driving to nearest Aldi for essential supplies (20 miles each way) on great Welsh roads [:D]

I reckon that yours Hillclimber was the inspiration to the person who originally bought mine! Mine is a WJ as well, and these are the only two white 987.2s I've seen so far:ROFLMAO:

The one thing that strikes me, is that every Boxster posted so far is different to each other - even mine and Hillclimbers are different (wheels, front grill). Great if you can't decide what colour you want, look at this post quite a couple are here (got to admit though - always been a fan of the Red ones Adrian!)

Hopefully get some more members cars on here[:)]

Would love to clean mine but she's parked on the road and we have a very narrow pavement so it would mean being constantly close to passers-by (of which we have more than you'd expect, being close to the town centre and opposite a car park). In such circumstances I have to consider it non-essential.

That said, I've considered doing it "piecemeal". I might go out today and just wash/polish the boot lid, then one rear wing tomorrow, then the other the next day, etc. If we're locked down for much longer it'll probably end up being a bit like painting the Forth Road Bridge :)

A couple of road cones, high vis jacket and a footpath closed sign should do the trick :ROFLMAO: Maybe have a bit of a scavenger hunt on your exercise outing!:ROFLMAO:

It does look black in the profile picture but it is actually Lapis Blue.

Almost finished...
Just thought I would add another white 987.2

Done a fair bit to it over this lockdown.
Just finished polishing the wheels and cleaning the arches.
Taken all the covers off from the front trunk and cleaned the battery compartment and made sure the drains are clear.
Same with the rear trunk and drains for the soft-top.
Replaced the gearbox oil and replaced some exhaust bracketry.
Engine compartment clean.
Just a clay bar, polish and wax to do and then I will have run out of stuff to do.
I am still trying to add pictures. Hope they come out this time.

Got a Pass-Out from Mrs Hillclimber, and decided to evict all the other toys out of the garage and 'do' the Boxster as I had the day to myself after fetching the Sunday Times.

Spent 5 hours on the 987.2. At 60,000 miles and not many careful owners before me (!) the car's paint is not the best with small 'incidences' to the rear, the front chin etc where the driver was not too careful indeed. Chips-Away have been used on the car (and by me correcting the worst ones), but, it is a sports car!
Good wash first with my usual simple soapy stuff and a good rinse and dry off before the sun got to the hard water deposits and into the cool shady garage. I ignored the wheels for now, tomorrows job.
Just 'found' Clay Bars, and, now, if I'm to spend time waxing, any car will get bar'd first to get the old wax off and to get the engrained dirt away at the same time. I think the spray lubricant does a lot of the work too, but it really is easy and fast with stunning results. I invested in Maguire's clay bar as suggested.
Here shows the junk that came off. Oddly, the doors seemed dirtier than any other area, the clay is snow white as new.....:

All cleaned off with a microfibre cloth, waxing began from the front to the back using my fav wax, Autoglym Resin, easy on, easy off and very little residue. Got in everywhere I could.

Outside soon done followed by all the door returns, boot etc and looked great, but hard to really see a polished white car.

Pleased, and in a good frame of mind, decided to have a go at the 'under dash' covers inside the front boot. Pinged the covers off.
What a mess! The pollen filter is the original that Porsche fitted in 2009, cobwebs and leaves and much more awaited. Didn't take too long, cleaned out all the debris from the grooves in the plastic and hinges and anywhere else, but it looks SO much better. Happy I did this area.

Have to say the car looks great and getting close to it you get to appreciate just how good a shape the early Boxsters are. A day well spent, and thanks to the OP in getting this thread going!

Cannot resist a final pic of my other love of 32 years, but that does not need a clay bar!

Graham.

I’m starting to look bad here guys![:D]

fantastic effort by everyone! I’m trying to find out who is closest for me to drop my car to!

I’m a bit of a heathen where it comes to cleaning! Turtle wax, sponge and a chamois! I’ve only just started using a wheel cleaner as my elbow grease isn’t as good as it used to be!

what year is your 911Graham? Looks about 73-74? But difficult to say from the picture??

The White Cars are winning so far!

Looking forward to the wheels tomorrow, but they really need a re-paint.

As to the yellow 911, it is a 1973 T with a 3.2 in it, I did the engine swop about 23 years ago. It was my hill climb car, hence my 'name'. Had the car since 1988. Very much a part of my life.
Lots of competition mods, but still a great little road car now. I hillclimb something very different now but still a strong Porsche content.

Yes done a fair bit of fiddling in the last couple of weeks.

Meteor Grey 987.1

Wheels off and tidied up.

Buttons still looking really nice, without any of the peeling that you see on some much fiddled with controls.
