http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fsxQZ_H96aY

now you tell me about any 911 capable of that in 1986 ?

Hi :)

Ah..thats the one...171 not 178 as I remembered it....still out of 911 country though lol :)

All the best Brett :)

It was the fastest production road-car in the world, having been recorded at 172mph on the salt flats in Utah in 1986 using an early 928 S4, but I feel this was probably tweeked beyond the normal 240 PS.
The Lamborghini Miura P400 S had a claimed top speed of 180, but when I tested one road conditions were only suitable for 140mph. However it felt capable of doing 180. The 0-100 in 11 secs was world class at the time.

Surely the original question was about 1978 - you can't just pick and choose a date to suit the 928, that's not fair. [:D][;)]

Anyway, wasn't that the 928 that had wing mirrors, then no wing mirrors, then wing mirrors, then no wing mirrors, etc, etc... [;)] [;)]

Hi :)

Yes that video is famous for the vanishing mirrors trick :)

Whichever way you look at it though...even in 1978 the 928 was capable of way over 150 plus...

And it DID win Car of the year, which NO OTHER Porsche has ever done :)

All the best Brett :)

Well I totally disagree. But its only my opinion....and I don't like silver porsches so what do I know.[:D]

I am a child of the sixties and I hate silver cars with a passion, mainly due to the rapidly increasing number of silver cars that by the early seventies were sporting peeling and flaking sliver paint. Like my first encounter with calamares ("battered squid tentacles to you madam") nothing is ever going to convince me that, however great the improvement, they can be nice. Apparently you know a lot more than you give yourslef credit for.

Oh, John. And I thought you and I were friends.....[&:]

Calamare are as near to the food of the Gods as you'll find anywhere. You obviously had a very poor copy of the real thing.

You need really fresh squid, as in caught this morning. The batter recipe I use is as light as a feather, and the oil needs to be hotter than you could ever get in a domestic kitchen. If cooked properly you would have to have the taste buds of a hyena to fail to appreciate the delicate taste and texture.

Cars? Yeh, I hate silver too.....[:)]

Hi Nicks :)

Interesting point..hmmm

Can you name another "production car"..either 2 or 4 seats that was faster in 1978 ??

I have thought about this, and I cannot...but at my age the memory isnt what it used to be :)

All the best Brett :)

Daytona, Miura, Countach, Boxer, Ghibli, Khamsin, Jarama, Quattroporte, 600 SEL, Pantera, Mangusta, BSA Bantam 175 series III.

I think all except the Jarama and the Mangusta went above 500 examples and maybe the QP and Khamsin fell below that figure. The main difference between them and the blob is that they were all great looking cars [;)]

Hi Alex...:)

I think the 928s 60,000 plus production and 500 for the Lambos show the difference :)

IMHO....the 928 is STILL the classic shape for a high performance GT...

One of the best looking cars ever made....

All the best Brett :)

Ah well,
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Mrs Postan seems to find me attractive, hope she doesn't ever get her eyes tested.....[:)]
When are going to run your Vmax?
