Considered views on price to sell 997

What are the views from the great and the good on this forum on a Nov 2004 C2S Tip with about £8k worth of extras and 9.5k miles??

Asked the same question of OPC recently, was told the C2S is worth £6k under list in trade and when C4S arrives later this will rise to around £9k under list. Values softer on standard 997 and set to drop more with CaymanS arrival. Being tempted by an AM V8 vantage - know where I can get one for small premium and April06 delivery, although price on these has crept up to around £85k for a decent spec

I met an accountant at a track day last month, who was predicting poor residuals on many late model Porsches.

He gave a number of reasons, but specifically blamed Porsche's move into volume production and the launch of too many new models in quick proximity. And, any hiccups in the economy will worsen the situation further.

So, your car would be an interesting test of the strength of the market. There are three options:
1. Go back to your supplying OPC and ask for their best cash price (or SOR)
2. Contact the 'Wanted' ads in the Sunday Times classifieds
3. Try a private sale

Part/ex is another possibility, but this tends to distort the true price.

Good luck

DB9... I did tell them where to stick it by going off to another garage

[]If you think the 997 has fallen out of bed I think the DB9's are even more impressive divers

Hi Nick,

The DB9 is a great car and would make a good alternative to your 997. My partner owns one and prior to that she had a DB7 which had lost almost halve its original purchase price within two and a half years when she thought about px. Thankfully it was sold to a private buyer for considerable more than the garage offered.

at the moment paying pretty much list (incl the options) for 9 month old DB9. Shame this didn't apply to the 997[]

Cabin is smaller, so we have about a year with it until the kids out grow the car. same performance; not as good audio package (option upgrade £3k) and things not bolted together as well.

In todays Sunday Times there is a Brand New unregistered zero mile car at £113900 or a 600 mile example at £109995 which is £4000 below list price

A colleague of mine just purchased a brand new DB9 from a main UK dealer at list. It had been specced by someone else who no longer wanted to go through with the purchase. My colleague put a deposit down the end of April / beginning of May and took delivery in June.

At the time he had to phone around a few dealers to get the colour that he wanted, but there did not seem to be a shortage of cars that were within weeks of either being built or delivered, whose prospective purchasers after having specced the cars have informed their dealers that they would prefer not to go through with the purchase if they could do so without forfeiting their deposits.
- Probably speculators getting cold feet about taking delivery now the market has softened.

Nick.. in view of those DB9 prices.. that puts it into the early AM Vanquish price range... I know which one I would get !

You are right Sundeep, however the Vanquish is not an every day car, so Ive been told by someone who owns one. The big problem I have is the lack of cabin room. It is ok for a 3 some, but 4 is a tight fit. It does go to show how the 911 is so user friendly..

Dario911,

I have seen this advert, and contacting today. I have been round the local AM dealer network so the prices are still high, however the garage that offered PX at £59k for the 997 did shave off £4k off the DB9 price without even asking.

mbrands,
I will have a phone round to see if there are any new ones coming up.

I am getting cold feet, purely on the cabin space issue, but great car to drive

Good luck Nick ! Let us know how you get on. I had a ride in my colleagues car (he wouldn't let me drive it !). The interior look and feel is very impressive. And although, overall, I actually prefer having my 997 (but that's just a personal thing - no doubt others will have their own opinion), I can definitely see the appeal of the DB9.

Just don't go for the convertible.

I saw a DB9 Coupe and a DB9 Convertible in Tetbury last week, and the Coupe was infinitely better looking. It oozed class, whereas the convertible just looked like a footballer's car.

Oliver, you are right Coupe only...even though I did play sunday league football about 25 years ago. Do you think I qualify for the drophead. No I don't think so

Dario911, I spoke to the guy selling his wifes DB9 for £109,995. He bought it for her for a christmas present, and you guessed it, she didn't like it, too fast, and bit too big, so bought her one of those Range Rover sports things (just delivered). He was going to have the DB9, but he has just bought himself a Red Italian job(u can guess which one and again just had it delivered) and how about this for a quote from him "just want to get shot of it, sitting in the garage, the only person who drives it is the car cleaning guy once a week...in...was...and back in again. (need to have a looked at those dodgy discs) If I could I'd marry him[8D]

mbrands, I do agree with you the 997 is a great package hard to beat at the price, but something draws me to own an Aston for maybe a short time. It is just like the day I deceided that I would buy a Porsche...one of those life things on your list...you just have to tick off

So Nick do you fancy helping him get shot of it then [;)] If so I can give you the name of a good OPC used car buyer if he is looking for 997's

Daro911,
Please tell me, as we could be onto something here. v interested[8|]

I have to say, just been on the AM forum, and you never guess, they too are debating the AM sat nav maps being out of date, and...no TMC on their system even though it was part of the spec. Another thing the £3k upgrade 960w Linn audio system is crap, and they are all complaining about it!!![]
