Cork Cam Tower Gasket

Afternoon All

Got a slight oil leak, visible on the engine number on the block and leaking onto the exhaust. I think it's safe to assume it's the cork gasket.

I've ordered one from OPC for the princely sum of £4.01. Does anyone know the torque settings for the bolts?

Also feel free to disagree with my diagnosis! No visible leaks anywhere else.

6lbs per square foot apparently according to a guy on you tube. That's good news when your torque wrench scale starts at 30lbs.........
 
Excellent news-just use a bar 6" long or slightly long & pull on it at 6" with a spring balance up to 12 lbs effort. Simples!

Or just use the small cheap torque wrench that Evri are currently bringing me!

So it turns out the cork gasket was fine, it was the 2 loose bolts and the 1 bolt that had fell out that was causing my problem!

Worth noting these 3 x 10mm (M6 x 22mm) bolts should have spring washers, mine were only on with standard washers after my engine build. Took 12k miles for them to work loose.

I've ordered some spring washers to fit. No leaks for the time being and a spare gasket on the shelf just in case!

When I had 8v engines I never bothered with the cork gaskets and just RTV-ed the back piece on. No leaks and no loose bolts from a shrinking “fat hippo” gasket.
