Corroded Discs?

We compared a set of OEM 997 discs with a set of Genuine Porsche discs last week. As soon as they were out of the box you could not tell them apart. The Porsche ones have no additional part numbers or makers name stamped into them, the label is on the box. The Textar brake pads are also identical to the Porsche ones aprt from the Porsche ones also have their part number printed onto the back in black ink. They both have "Textar" and "T401" stamped into the rear. Brake pad wear sensors have no markings on them, anti squeal pads have no markings on them A complete set of OEM discs, pads, shims, sensors and bolts can be bought for £220.00 + VAT for the front and slightly less for the rears. DIY fitting easy enough, or any decent mechanic should be able to do it in about 5 hours max. £1500 is just crazy, it can be done for £700 + VAT

That's very, very interesting stuff, thank you for that. Any thoughts on the cheapest supplier though? Seen some discs on e-bay stating genuine Porsche, but I am just a bit uneasy about buying them off there. Would prefer buying direct from a supplier and now I think I am swinging back to OEM parts if that's the case. Def going to have a go at doing them myself. Thanks T911UK.

Certainly worth having a bash yourself, Google "Porsche parts online" and see what you find...........[;)]

Yes, the Sebro ones and the ones in brown boxes we call OEM were all identical to the OPC ones

Well I finally bit the bullet and had the discs done at OPC Cambridge. They did a collection delivery service so I missed out on the coffee. I had them investigate a noisy tailgate at the same time and they taped up the U shaped catch in the tail, seems a bit better. Brakes are now spot on, definitely better. Very happy with the service from the OPC Cambridge.

The tape fix is a 'bodge', if the rattle is still there get them to look at these:
ORIGINAL: Nick_USA There was a workshop campaign in USA (not a recall) for those customers experiencing (and Complaining about) severe 'Trunk Clunk' see links below: [link=http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/miscellaneous/p176-hatch-service-campaign.html]http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/miscellaneous/p176-hatch-service-campaign.html[/link] [link=http://www.planet-9.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=143]http://www.planet-9.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=143[/link]

OPC Guildford skimmed my brake discs in situ after an advisory from the MOT man. Bill was reduced as it was a recent purchase from them (not sure I noticed any better braking, but they were much quieter).

My 2006 Cayman S with nearly 60k is still on original discs and pads. As well as routine road use it does speed hillclimbs but I am careful to take it out and dry out the brakes when it is washed. Maybe the answer is bravery - it will go round that corner a whole pile faster than you think it will, so lay off the brakes and just turn the wheel
