Cracking on tyre

BJ Innes said:
As my 718 is under manufacturers warranty, it's probably advisable to stick with N rated.....for now anyway.

Just by way of clarification, non N rated road tyres do not void the 2 year manufacturer's warranty. It is only when you move into the extended warranty period there is likely to be a problem.

Ok Clive. Didn't know that. I was assuming that OPC's would get decidedly sniffy about honouring any warranty issues arising on my new 718 if I had non N rated tyres fitted.

Picture this scenario.......OPC, "sorry about your engine con-rod bolts giving up, but I see you have non N rated tyres fitted, I'm afraid this invalidates your warranty".

I know from previous conversations with Michelin people that the N rated thing only really applies to certain models where suspension and wheel arch clearances my be an issue.

This is good news. PS4S are in my head now.

I'll check with my Michelin tyre supplier re PS4S availability for my 20" sizes soon.

The reason is the manufacturer's warranty is governed by statute and EU regulations and consequently is more consumer aware and less restrictive. Whereas, when it comes to extended warranty, this is basically an insurance policy, so a contract between owner and insurer with each side being bound by the document wording.

I've just ordered a full set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric n rated tyres for 19" wheels on my Boxster. Currently on PS2's & the fronts are on about 2.5 mm but are quite cracked (as bad as any tyre cracking I've seen on Pirelli's or Bridgestone's) & the rears at just over 3mm.

I'd probably prefer PS2's, cheapest I could get them for was about £960 per set fitted. Managed to get the Goodyears for £539 fitted at Costco - they've got a deal on at the moment for £80 off four.

For that price they've got to be worth a try.
