CTEK trickle charger

The last LED should only come on once the CTEK has been connected for a week.

It charges the battery (which is complete once the rectangular LED lights - stage 6 I think) and then keeps it on a float charge for a week. But because floating a battery indefinitely can cause it to lose water, the final LED indicates that it has gone into a pulse mode, where it measures the voltage and periodically pulses some charge, but without being constantly on float.

In my experience, within 24 hours batteries inevitably get to the rectangular LED charge, but I haven't charged a really flat or knackered battery.

Hi , I am a new poster having joined the club in May. Previously owned a 986 2000 Boxster and experienced the issues of a flat battery over winter the first thing I did when I bought my 987 RS60 Spyder was purchase a CTEK. Wasn't aware of those at LIDIL but to be honest looked at this as a long term investment as I always store my car in the garage over winter and wanted to make sure the kit was reliable. So far so good . When my 986 battery went flat it caused all sorts of problems , it was so bad it required a jump lead start which when it is tucked away snuggly front in the garage was not easy , and for some reason once started the battery discharge had affected the remote locking systems which meant I had to use the key in the lock until I could get it looked at . Now have a whole 4 months using the CTEK so will see and report back.

By the way - just by way of information, if you have the battery on charge (I use a Ctek connected to the +ve terminal of the battery directly, and to a bolt on top of the n/s spring/shock mount for the -ve) then all of the lighter sockets in the car stay on permanently - I knew this was the case if the charger was connected via one of the lighter sockets, but it's also true when charging via the battery directly. Not sure if that is the case if you connect a charger to the +ve and -ve of the battery - but that is contraindicated in the manual, you're supposed to connect to a different earth point on the car so that it can monitor how much charge is being supplied to the battery.

Two months in using my CTek and all is good. Disconnected last week , jumped in and car started first time , no issues. Very impressed so far.

As has been said, run the cable through the door. I have done it like this for the last two years with no issues.

Hi , having attached my CTEK charger / conditioner to my Boxster in October 2017 and not driven since then , at last we had a very sunny afternoon yesterday and decided to disconnect and take my car for its first drive of 2018 , absolutely no issues with starting. Took a 30 minute drive , all good with the car and my blood pumping and a big smile on my face.
I am really pleased with the kit and would recommend it. Last winter with my 986 and no CTEK totally different outcome , car a none starter.
Ian.

I also run my CTek lead through the bottom of the door. There's no pinching of the cable at all.
