Cup 1 wheels - real or replica? And other questions!

8J/9J refers to the width of the wheel in inches.

If you get a staggered set of 8 & 9 then put the wider ones at the back. There is a school of thought that 8J front and back with a 225/45/R17 tyre is a good neutral handling setup, especially on an S2 where they don't have the need for wider rear tyres due to the lower power output ;)

Well, then I remembered upsetting a Scottish poster and getting a PM saying he was "going to find me no matter how long it took" , and as you're a lot nearer I decided not to call your manhood into question after all :ROFLMAO:. Back to wheels I'd fit some properly designed spacers on the rear to fill the rear arches and keep the D90's.
 
I have replica cup 1's which I bought second hand 4 years ago they are still perfectly round even after travelling across some harsh pot holes plus I can't say I have ever heard of anyone complaining about the quality of the replica cup 1's.

The added bonus is they a doddle to keep clean [:)]
 
Don't do it....
16" cups will give you the sweetest drive IMO. They will grow on you.
Heavy 17" wheels spoil things. (Light ones are fine though [:D] )
 
16" 993 winter cups were 7J/9J? so not ideal.. (and one of my least favourite Porsche wheels). Extra width at the rear isn't really what a 944 wants.

For lightweight 17's, interesting options are the 8J Boxster (987) / Cayman ones that I have. Pretty light, and look good on a 944. Loses concours points though

anyway, maybe you should stick with D90s...

I am loving the thread-I have 17" cup ones you may have seen them at Rutland.
I was told by the Guy i bought my car from that the correct size for cup i,s on a944S2 is 7.1/2" x17 x52 Fronts and 9"X17 x52 Rears.
Unless i am mistaken they were fitted to some of the Cup cars and also some 928,s.I am sure someone will be along shortly to either
verify this or say its a load of ollocks.

I have a set of cup 1's on my car they are 7.5 and 9 inch by 17 inch with 225 50 17 and 255 45 17 tyres on which is the size that were on cars like the 968 and 928 as an option. I find that the car rides well on them the only down side being more road noise from the big tyres. My car is an S2 ( the one with the big engine ( that's better than the one with the hairdryer on it ) ) I find them to be fantastic I believe they are replicas ( they came off of Helen Goffs S2 a few years ago ) . Just remember if you are going to 17 inch wheels you should change the castor mounts on the front to 968 ones.

Given that D90's are the correct wheel for the car, they are light and strong, they keep the right sidewall profile for the rest of the suspension dynamics and they are easy to clean then I think the logical solution is to stick with them. So it's off to Camskill for some new tyres to stick on the back of the old girl and then I can cancel my repeated appointment with the local hedges/A&E unit/Police Station.

All's well that ends well, eh? And thanks again for your help.

You're too kind Oli.... you know what they say... "buy cheap, buy twice" [;)]

Her indoors has got Fiesta runabout with an engine around half the size of of an S2, it would see off a wheezy old S2 I reckon. S2 = a Sheep in Wolfs clothing...
