Cup 2's & 968 castor mount bushes.

I have noticed a difference, though not a huge difference, since installing the bushes and that's without re-aligning the suspension. I didn't have a tramlining problem before (at least no more so than any other car with low profile tyres i've driven) either with my 16" original teledials or my current 17" replacements. I just thought it was a cheap mod and there must be some technical reasoning behind Porsches service bulliten however minor or insignificant. If Porsche were simply worried about the litigious US surely they would have literally millions of service bullitens issued to cover every possible mod you could carry out on your car - what about big red brake conversions and all the extra stress that would transmit through your front suspension bushes and components?

In anycase upon removal and subsequent examination of my drivers side bush I found a large deep gash in the rubber around 90 degree sector so I now at least have piece of mind!

Just a thought...
But has anyone replaced the castor mounts with the 944 ones. Point being, replacing old/perished rubber possibly 14yrs + surely would make a noticable difference anyway to any car.

I've had 18's on my Turbot for well over a year. They went on OK, but with occasional rubbing of the INNER rear arches, solved with 7mm spacers at the rear only. I retained the standard castor mounts. There was only a slight increase in tramlining over the previous Design 90's. That is with M030.

I have now updated the suspension and rather than go down the 968 castor mount route, I'm using solid castor mounts with a spherical insert, teflon lined and adjustable camber top plates.

HERE and HERE will give you some idea.

The suspension settings are obviously all to S??t at the moment, after a major rebuild, but will be realigned on Thursday at Weltmeister. I'll be able to report back then about improvement (or otherwise). However, even in an undetermined state, the front feels more solid.

My preferred settings with the wheel / tyre combination I'm running is 1.5 deg neg camber all round. M030 set to mid point. The adjustablke camber top plates will let me experiment further ... [:)]

Yes I put new 944 MO30 on and they work, but then I discovered the 968 ones are cheaper and contain less rubber so they have to be the sensible choice (unless you go full monty sperical ones like Rick). I also replaced my wishbone front bushes with a delrin bush, it seems these are often overlooked and IMHO could create almost (there is slightly less rubber) as much opportunity for tramlining.

I even looked there before I posted. Cheers for the link mik.

I've had cracking service from Lindsey in the past as well and I think I might just have to have a set of them, especially as I have a horrible feeling the ones on my Turbo are 944 M030 rather than 968. I also want adjustable camber plates and can't see how the Weltmeister ones are worth the extra over the Lindsey ones, but I will see what Allan has to say about them on Saturday before I order.

You're right Rick, I just hadn't tried yours as mik's said it was straight to the mounts. Thanks both then.
