cup 2's on ebay

I know the front is a 7", but how would these sit on a late turbo?

They'd be fine. They are from a 993 (I guess), but they are exactly the same size as my 964 sourced Cup 1's.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]The 968 used 7.5" fronts, but the offset was slightly different and actually placed all the extra width plus another 3mm further inside. In other words the 7.5" 968 ones would sit 3mm further under the arch, so although wider they look narrower if anything. Of course that could effect the handling and while I have not tried a car with 7/5" fronts in the 968 offset I can confirm the ones I have and in this auction don't cause any nasties.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Of course Cup 1's look much better than Cup2's in 17" [8D][FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Factory rears are all the same width and offset for narrow body 911/968 by the way.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

i totally agree that 1's look better - but how long do you have to wait to get your hands on an original set - and then how much do you have to pay???

what would you say is a fair price for this set of 2's ?

17" Cup2's come up fairly regularly.

Cup1's are rarer ~ I think PorscheApart wanted £700 for a set when I last spoke to them.
 
utter rubbish 2's are far superior (but harder to clean) [;)]

I SO wanted Cup1s when I got the car, but at the end of the day they are a lotta cash, and my Design90s had been very well refurbed by the previous owner.

On the flipside - they'll certainly hold their value, so can be sold on (as long as you keep your nice Turbo Des90s which Steven refurbed just before you got them.....).

Cup2s don't look as good (IMHO) but are a good bit cheaper.

Those Cup1's have been on Pistonheads for a fair while - you may be able to knock him down a bit (?)

Actually I think he would NOT dissaprove (although he'd probably want to see some bigger brakes behind them evntually as "justification" ) [8D]
 
I paid £350 for my Cup 1's in a mix of conditions from quite nice to extensively corroded. As I was refinishing them in anthracite that was fine. No tyres of course, and only 3 centres.
 
Compared to yours Fen, that would appear to make these worth somewhere in the region of £550-£600?
 
Mine cost £40 each to have refinished, probably plus VAT, so that might not be far out, provided they are perfect and you are not going to want to get them refurbed after you get them anyway.

I guess it really is worth hanging/paying out for some original wheels, with the unsprung weight debate?

They are a bit lighter than replicas, but I also have 18" Cup 2 reps (chosen as in 18" I thnk the Cup 2 is nicer) which are heavy, but they don't make a huge difference.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]I could do you a deal on an Autothority MAF and chips to suit it running 1bar... [;)][FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
I have Cup2's (7"&9" x 17")on my S2 road car, they look better than the Cup1's I feel. Although Fen's colour combination and low ride height looks stunning.

If you change from 7" & 8" D90's then the car will understeer more, if you are removing 7.5" & 9" D90's then the handling changes will be marginal, although the ride is firmer.

7.5" 968 fronts will help reduce this effect somewhat.

As a matter of interest, my prefered combination from a handling perspective is 8" & 9"x 16".

Also, most Class2 Club Championship 944S2 Racecars run 8"x16" alround with 245 section Michelin Cups (largely because rim width is restricted to 8").

What I didn't say is that I would like ultimately to find 6 more Cup1's; 2 9x17 rears and 4 8x17's for use on the front, so having 2 sets of 8" & 9" wide 17's.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]I am not surprised to hear that 16" is the "best" wheel in terms of dynamics, but cosmetically they look too small hence most people wanting bigger (the reason the 968CS got 17's I imagine), and in my case they don't fit over the brakes.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
