Hi All,

well it has been a long time but the cylinder head has been replaced and the car has been put on a rolling road, and it still has 186bhp without any modifications which isnt bad for a 24 year old engine that originally had 190bhp. So was thinking of upgrading the exhaust and maybe fitting a performance chip like the one from promax. What do you think.

Thanks

Great to hear it's been sorted and welcome back [:)]

Most S seem to really struggle to make anywhere near the factory figure after all these years, even with a chip and other mods so your figure is very healthy to start with. Further mods will not make much difference to your peak power but may smooth out and refine the delivery lower down the rev range.

Alasdair has a good engine and a pair of back-up cams too (they were from the seized engine), should the cams in the good engine be other than perfect.

Its unusual to find an engine, because for every S engine available there are usually five people with failed engines, looking to buy. The engine with the seized bottom end from Alasdairs friend is the only one Ive heard of in almost twenty years of being involved with the cars - its ALWAYS the cylinder head that fails!

Any idea why S heads seem to crack while S2 heads don't?
Did the factory change anything in the moulding process, as I can't see any physical difference in the casting of the heads itself?
