There was an electrical adustable option (8 way via two switches) and also an electric comfort option (another switch).
12 way was available on 928`s but was also available on 944`s although when I was looking for a 944T I tested about 12 - 15 cars and thats where I saw/used them IIRC definitley in a couple of Silver Rose cars. Since then I have looked for 12 way on a lot of cars but it is rare to see more than two switches. Even the one I finally bought which was Silver Rose spec apart from the plaid upholstery and had every option going had only two switches.
I believe the third switch does lumbar support (and something else) hence the comfort option designation.

Aircon is the large button to the right of the sliders with a snowflake on it.
The two smaller buttons to the left are 'Recirc' at the top and 'Front Screen Demist' below
Non aircon cars have big buttons either side for the Recirc and Demist

I'd be ashamed to post that pic Paul. Don't worry, I haven't quoted it, you can still remove it, and if you're quick then few people will see it! [

(The concerning thing is that it is so much better than Air Guitar 1 - don't you think? Why did they make us wait so long for the better tracks .... ?)
Apologies - Euro, auto '84s had it as standard - all from '85 as you sayORIGINAL: 944 man
ORIGINAL: A9XXC
Early cars had power steering as an option from the start, from MY94 (Aug 83 on) it was standard. Most cars had it, except mine!
The switches in the early cars are easy to use right under the fingers, -IF you have a good memory, as they face forward and you cant see them!
Mike
Power steering was only standard on the 1985 model, before that it was an option.[]

By the way its brilliant that one topic question can meander and wind off topic and back on
Thanks again. I hope soon to be a fully fledged owner, probably in the spring now unless something really good pops up

Thanks for all the pointers. So am I right in thinking that a dash photo with a round hole to the left will be the air sensor and will confirm air con.
Nooooo!
They all have that! It's completely un-used in cars without the numbered temperature control, and is the temp sensor for cars with this. It's not air-con in these cars, just a basic temp control that maintains cabin temp without being able to cool it.
Air con needs the air con button, as in Paul Smith's post. Beyond that, it'll probably not work and don't believe the "it needs regassing" sales pitch.
