well there is bad news then very bad news[&o][&o][&o]
Took the cam cover off when got home from work as mate cant collect till later in week. Well yes the cam chain has snaped but worse the head casting where the cam chain tensioner bolts on to the head has broken on both bolts so the head is well scrap as far as I can see.
Its not the best news but on the up front who if anyone does some porting etc on these engines[
] there must be a plus for all this pain lol
So all offers of heads gratefully received
Stephen

Hi Paul
Sprockets look ok the inlet maybe a small amount of wear.
I did not get a great deal of history when I bought the car 14 months ago but the price was very right[
Should have done a wee bit more research as I knew all about the belts etc but not the cam chain, my own fault
Sourced head and its going in to get cleaned and checked with valve seats etc being looked at.
So need to order some bits, gasket set, cam belt kit, pulleys tensioner etc will replace dizy cap, rotor arm, leads, etc anything else you think I should look at do when its stripped down?
Water pump?
Had bought the 44 as a weekend car but it became my daily driver in Feb this year when my XC70 wrecked its mains! not been my year[
but having used it all year its made me realise it ticks all the boxes for me, its fast, fun, not heavy on fuel (volvo 19 mpg S2 28-32mpg)
cheap to insure, carries my sea kayaks and camping gear for 2 with no problem so its going to remain my daily for many years to come I hope and as pointed out yes bills can be heavy but so is depreciation on any new or nearly new car
Thanks for all the help guys

Ok Paul admit it you have been here before!
Finally got the car over to mates garage yesterday for work to be done having aquirred a head and had it reconed, bought all the bits needed, gasket sets, cam kit including pullys etc new leads, dizzy cap, plugs treated the car to a promax chip, air filter and decat pipe (well every cloud has a silver linning does it not) Got call tonight to tell me both cams knackerd[
So any of you really nice people got a pair of good cams they want to give to a new home? sorry I mean sell of course ( I am a scot- got to try)
If not thats another Grand on top of the 1.5 k in bits already, aint life sh1t some days[
On the up side - actually run out of up sides[

At least you picked the right time. So many 944s are coming off the road and being scrapped at the moment that 2nd hand parts seem plentiful, I cant see that situation lasting forever.
Sorry to hear your bad news but might not be all that expensive if you can get a head complete with valves from someone like Alasdair, he's a good guy and seems to love the cars more than getting the extra penny so you'll find him a bit more reasonable than some larger specialists.
Good luck.

Second for Alasdair, Sulzeruk here. Aso try Elliot at Porkaparts, he's got loads of cars in at the moment. Good luck and keep positive!

If you're in Devon already then give Andy Moss a bell on 07762 244477. He's just outside Honiton, but more importantly has a source of genuine S2 and 968 cams that undercuts everyone else I know of. The downside will be that the source is in Germany so you'll lose out with the Pound being in the toilet cpmared to the Euro these days.

local Porsche dealer is trying to get ma a deal.
Worth a call to Andy Moss, I'd forgotten he had a deal on cams but it was a few years ago.
