Dedicated WUF thread (inc full spec)

I finally made the time to write out the full details/spec for WUF, updated to 2011 and greatly shortened from the many hours of reading on Rick's site.

With suitably provocative title for Pistonheads readers (who all seem to love a good argument) [:D]

..and an extra picture of the current front end as it exists today. Just for you guys.[:)]

Thats a hell of a mods list. We should re-start the league :D. I've got some plans for my car, involving the 2.7 engine I recently acquired, it would be fun to have people to compete against.

I never got to ask Rick, but how easy/difficult do you find the tuning with the Wolf 3D and the J&S Safeguard?
I suppose you bought the car fully tuned already and haven't much fiddled with this?

Rick swears by it and spent a long time not just getting it running smoothly but ballancing the adjustments between ignition timing, injector duration etc etc. I got the impression he'd recommend it if he did it all again.

I haven't even plugged a laptop in to it yet but hopefully I will get around to learning before long. I'd very much like to change to a more modern BB turbo when I've had the rings replaced and bottom end refreshed. It'd be nice to know I could tweak and get the most out of it if needs be.

I would love to see another 944 dyno shoot out. I think it would give a lot of people out there with ongoing projects something to aim for. Maybe we could organise one this summer? I'd be up for that. Anyone know a suitable location with the space for 20-30cars?

WUF has never been on a dyno in its current set up and I'd love to get a new figure once the bottom end is re-built, I don't think WUF would be a match for the big 3.0 and 3.2 cars now but it'd still be interesting.[:)]

Ben, looking very nice LM Classic next year for me, can't wait !!!
What did you do with the vented nose panel ?
Can i buy it if you still have it ?

This summer would be great, would love to meet WUF (and his keeper) any another 944 owners. I hope to have my 951 back on the road within the next month or so, when I've rebuilt it's engine. It looks like its going back standard with the K26/6 for now but I might shoot for most powerful K26/6 based car :D. Hopefully it will be running my new injection system with a wasted spark setup.

How about the dyno that was used in the UK League before? I'm in Gloucester and theres a couple near me, I took my Lux to one called Powerstation and the owner had a 2.7 previously so was quite interested to see my Lux.

A dyno day would be good if we can locate a suitably accurate/consistent set up as the one we used to use at Silverstone. Still can't get used to seeing WUF without any decals on her ! [;)]

That is a very good point! I'll have to ring the garage and see what they did with it?! I asked them to put it back in the car.

Could drop in and have a chat with them - will be passing Loughborough tomorrow.

Checkout how much cooling they have.

One of the reasons we used to use Weltmeister in Silverstone for our annual 944 Dyno Days was the amount of airflow they could get over the car in the Dyno cell. Huge ducted blowers to the front of the car and equally large extractor fans in the vent behind. Keeps it as safe as possible for massively modified turbos and the heat they generate

Ben,
at risk of stating the obvious, but after reading your "abbreviated" description of WUF's modifications, thats a fascinating bit of tuning work.
Thanks for taking the time.
Do you know what the detail of the cam opening, spark and sequential injection timing are compared to standard. (at a given rpm)
Good luck with her
thanks
George
