178K miles, rotten sills, and knackered clutch. All this for only 14 grand.....

Reason(s) for failure

Offside Windscreen wiper not operating automatically when switched on (8.2.1b)
Nearside Rear position lamp(s) not working (1.1.A.3b)
Nearside Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)
Offside Rear fog lamp not working (1.3.2b)
Offside Rear Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.E.1)
Offside Steering rack gaiter insecure (2.2.D.2d)
Nearside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.3)
Offside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.3)

To be fair, quoting £3200 to repair the sills and do the paint, and I'm sure deal with all the smaller niggles, seems to be fair advertising. The clutch less so, but if it all stacks up there might be a deal to be done?

The mileage will always be an issue though, despite what we keep saying. If it was a sub-100K car with far worse issues it'd be a bargain. :-(
 
he could at least get the photo's the right way up....his prices are a bit off...i'm thinking of his price for work to the clutch...oh and he's wrong about it being the most collectible....some classic mags have already put the 86 year as the car to have and valued it the most accordingly...:)

I agree, but I guess if there is someone out there looking for this spec then who knows. Personally, top end £8K with the work to do and the high mileage (which I believe is important when you start to stray above £10K). Why not have the work done and then try and sell for £14K?? Even then I still think he would be lucky to sell but good luck to the seller.

As you say at least it is an honest advert.
 
I note in the latest classic mag where mileage is mentioned that they are happy to say that these cars are so well built that one with 300k miles won't feel much different to drive than a car with 30k...that may seem far fetched but I would agree with this statement. Mileage really isn't an issue with these cars...service is....I recall reading when Porsche did their road test in the 80's, they covered 300k in one year and then stripped the car down to it's bear components and measured everything, result being that the components had little wear, in some cases were as good as new when checked with a mic. The only real thing to think about when looking at an old car is components that are effected by age, rubber items for example, in this case a car that's done more miles would be better than one that sits around...garage queens are only good for sitting in the garage, if you start driving them they'll need a lot of age related components changing..

I spent over £5000 on the sills and re-paint for the same area. That was from a very reputable classic specialist. That included a photographic record of what was cut away and re-manufactured.

Best I've seen a clutch advertised is £680 from a local independent.

Then we have the issue of the suspension mounts and corrosion.

I suspect you could probably find better for less.

good question...I guess for me it would be a car that is trailer-ed to concourse events , never seen rain etc etc...others may think differently....

As an informed person.... :rolleyes:

I'd say it's not a car that's stored as an investment, but the ones that are truly cherished yet rarely used. The ones that only come out for one event a year, and the one trip for a service and MOT with no expense spared.

Unfortunately, I now own an '86 Turbo, which renders all of them utterly undesirable and worthless until after I see fit to dispose of it...:(

Hehe then that makes two of us! But just to be sure I'm just about to 'ruin' mine by turning it in to a race car!.. :ROFLMAO:
 
er..sorry should have said..mines an 86 too...:) now according to the DVLA there's only 5 86's on the road with 10 sorn....not many of us left then...

I did notice just how few seemed to be left last time I looked on there Pete. Such a shame that so few of us get to experience the best one :p

News flash! Display is now open to any 944 turbos, or to be honest any 944 if you whack a turbo badge on the back. [&:]



 
My old 86 turbo which is a belter has now found a loving home in Newcastle, great to know that it is going to be loved !
To the poster who wants to turn his 86 into a race car................don't do that !

I am happy to bring Ropey Ebay Turbo on the trailer as an example of what happens to a 30 year old Turbo if you don't look after it.
 
Just looked at the pictures, the car is not fitted with M030 suspension as the front struts do not have adjustable valving.
It should not have a "turbo" decal on the wing (88 turbo s cars only) plus it is fitted in the wrong position.
Hope he gets 14k for it as that makes mine worth 25k minimum, the red one that sold for circa 17k last year in Yorkshire and looked absolutely mint is now back on the market at 25k.

PS. I banged on about the value increase on these cars at least 3 years ago.

Just need a good set of black leather seats to have all the bits to put mine back to standard should I wish to, mine is fitted with Cup 1 wheels, Recaro CS Seats (968 CS) and a Club Sport Steering Wheel.
That said mine is staying "as is" I like it that way.

I just bought the best I could afford, which is an 89 2.7. It looks the part and can only go 70 on the motorway anyways. I have to leave the turbo and S2's to those with deeper pockets than I. :(
