Dent in wing

I am not a happy man, someone has driven into my front wing of the Porsche then just driven off so no reg number etc. So my next to mint lux is no more. Been quoted £150 to do the wing and another £150 to do the front valance, not bad money as a mate is a painter. But only thing I am concerned about is he said he could pull the dent out and re-paint but it's very near the swage line. Not sure if I should get a new wing but then it would show that the wing has been changed. If someone lets me know how to post pics as thumbnails I will post some up.

very sorry to hear that, you must be gutted. I can empathise - I drove my near-mint 944 turbo into a wall today and it looks pretty much done with [:(]

wet, empty roads, 220 RWHP, and a curious mind are not a good combination....grrrr.

Hope you don't have to much trouble getting yours looking dapper again :D

let him try on the understanding that if he can't then you will only make a token payment as you still have the option of changing the wing if it isn't up to standard.

Going from past experience you would possibly be better off replacing the wing as you may end up with imperfections that will only anoy you long term[8|]

A brand new turbo front wing from Porsche is available with a substantial discount from Chris at Exeter OPC for £500 inc vat and delivery [], a Lux wing will probably be different. I've recently called ALL the breakers in the country and wings with evidence of rust range from £50 (PH Sportscars) to £125 (Douglas Valley)

I know that one of Jon Mitchells customers has a brand new Lux wing (don't know which side) which was sent in error by a German liquidating company advertising on ebay.de - he wanted a Turbo wing, not a Lux [8|]

I had dentmaster take out a fist sized dent on the wing which was about level with the popup lights on my 944. He also went over the car for dings all for about a hundred pounds.

jeezus sorry to hear that guys. I nearly lost it tonight coming home myself ....gulp . Its greasy as hell out there at the moment.
I have seen wings on ebay from time to time. It might pay to phone the breakers on ebay they advertise a dust cap or something and give you a contact number for the rest of the car parts.

Take a look around where it happened. There is hardly a place in the country now that doesn't have CCTV cameras running all the time. I believe you have a right to request footage and you may be lucky

I can't believe it, just 4 days ago I was driven into when the car was parked. Yesterday someone rear ended me (the car not me). The Lux was mint 5 days ago it gone from a £3k+ car to a £500 car. It looks repairable as its crack the rear bumper and moved the panel under the lights out by only about 1-2mm. I think the back box had the worst of it and now sits half down the car! Guess it all depends how bad it is when the rear bumper it taken off. The 944 must be built like a tank, I am guessing the guy behind hit me at 20mph as there were no skid marks or anything, don't think he even hit the brakes. The car was a Clio and it just exploded when it hit the back of the 944. Just hope the insurance company don't mess me about.

Thanks for the ideas about the wing but will just get it done when it goes in for the rear now, if they don't write it off! The CCTV idea is good but unfortunately it was over at my fathers in a tiny village. I think they only just got the wheel last year so not much chance of CCTV. But I have got my dad on the case looking for suspect vehicles. Maybe we can make one good car out of mine and arumdevil's car, or it might just be I want his turbo engine. Sorry to hear about yours, I know what everyone is saying about the roads they are so slimy round me. But at least the lux doesn't have enough power to get me into a lot of trouble.

And one last note as my exhaust is nacked what does anyone thing to the Bursch systems? http://www.base6.co.uk/944_bursch_ad_ph.html At the moment I have a ECP one on and its so loud.

ahhhh, noooo. It's not been a good week for 44s []

First your wing. then my wall, then your rear, and I saw some friends who said yesterday they saw another black 944 written off and a renault in the hedge next to it. Apparently it was quite bad, but hopefully nobody was badly injured. This was in Totnes (anyone on here?).

The rest of you keep your wits about you out there on our roads. Drive safe.

oh, and homesea, I hope you can sort it out between you and your insurance and get the car looking spic n span again.

Are you local to Totnes then? There aren't that many black 944s in the area I can think of, but of course I don't know them all.

My S2 coupe was rear-ended by a colleague at a lot less than 20mph. The fibreglass of the bumper cracked and there was the smallest of impressions on the panel with the script below the lights. That cost over £1,000 to fix and I asked them to leave the script panel alone (it's double-skinned so you can't push it back out). Given that yours sounds worse and it's now 6 years later I'd prepare for them writing the car off I'm afraid, especially given it needs a wing as well.

Yes Fen, I grew up in the Totnes area since age 5 and have just moved back to Dartington after a brief flirt with Stroud, Glos. Where abouts are you based then? was it you I saw in a black 944 (S2/turbo I think) a few weeks back at dusk at the top of Huxhams Cross?? (you flashed your lights but I only waved as hand not close enough to stalk!)

I'm in Kingsteignton but my 944 hasn't been on the road for well over a year and it's Glacier blue (same as yours from your avatar?). There's a black Lux locally that I know of - used to belong to a guy I knew through the club but he sold it to buy a Harley as I recall and now his son has it I believe, it has an L-suffix cherished number on it. That's the only black one I can think of and I don't remember seeing any others about for a while.

Ah, I see. Mine is(was) crystal green, supposedly....

I will now leave this thread to let it get back on topic, sorry!!

The damage at the back sounds just about the same as yours was Fen. It will suck if they write it off as not many about in the same condition as mine was. If you were thinking mine was near your area, its not I am in S.Yorkshire. Guess I might need to start looking for a new one. Think if they do write it off I will put some more cash towards it and buy a Turbo. I had also just bought some new konis for it as well, not fitted yet. If they give me the option of buying it back I might strip it for parts. What are Cup alloys worth in mint condition with brand new eagle F1's? I guess with all the other bits of trim, engine, 16v gearbox etc it probably worth about £2k in bits. It will be a very sad day if it comes to that.

I had a quote of £60 for a used bumper shell, which I offered the colleague as a way out as he was already in trouble at work. As it happened he dragged his backside on paying me and then got fired for something else anyway so I had to go through their insurance (his was a company car).

Bottom line is you can buy it back and fix it yourself if it's like mine was (though I had no exhaust damage and my car had a rear under spoiler that was untouched also which might make yours sound slightly worse?) if they do write it off. Be prepared to argue though as you don't want cat D on it if you can avoid it.

It's arumdevil who lives near(ish) me.

homesea, if they do write it off, they will no doubt offer you a pitance for it. Whatever you do do NOT accept their first offer. Look through eBay and AutoTrader, and any other sites that come to mind and find examples as similar to yours as possible that reflect closer to the value you have in mind. Be firm and argue that you think it's worth more than they offer you.

An old [woman] drove into the front bonnet/wing of my 1988 saab 900 last year. I was parked and she admited liability. Her insurance company had damage assessed at £1500, which they said was uneconomical. They offered me £900 for the car. I said I thought it was closer to £1400 (though actually it probably wasn't due to high milage, blah blah) and in the end, with lots of pushing got them to give me £1000 AND they let me keep the car, no cat D mark on it. :D

I still have the car now (luckily!)

in short, don't let them take the piss, and be persistant and clear in what you want (although I probably had an advantage in that I was claiming from the 3rd party's policy, and not my own).

best of luck!

Don't forget that members can get a free insurance valuation from the office. I've had a couple of successes getting a realistic value for member's cars after the silly first offers just as a volunteer, a proper Club valuation is pretty conclusive!

I've just got two estimates for the car, one came in at £2100+VAT and the other £2400+VAT. Some of the prices on parts are just crazy £556 for the back box, £93 for mounting kit, £33 for the Porsche decal and nearly £70 for the stone film. So I have a feeling they will write the car off. So it just comes down to how much they offer me for the car.

It's stupid, isn't it? If you price the parts yourself, get a decent local independant bodyshop to do the work and forget the cost of courteousy cars and all the other extra costs the insurance-approved bodyshops pass on, you could probably fix it for a quarter of that estimate....[]

Wouldn't it be nice if the insurers will give you the cash from the lowest estimate and let you get it fixed yourself?
